Angel's Author's Cafe.. Southern Comfort .. 6-25-08

Today is Southern Comfort... ahhh food... lol  We will celebrate the glorious cuisine of the South... Chicken Fried Steak, Chicken Fried Chicken Breast, Fried Chicken, Fried Shrimp, Fried Catfish, Fried Pork Chops, Fried Okra, Fried Onion Rings, Hushpuppies, Corn Fritters, Apple Fritters, Fried Pickles, Fried Pies... and anything else you want fried... just speak up and we'll bread it up and fry it up... lol

And to go with all that fried food there will be tons of fresh garden veggies... roasted corn.... peas... beans... squashes,  and greens... turnip greens, collard greens, mustard greens, spinach...   Tender leaf lettuce and little cucumbers with vine ripe tomatoes.... 

Then there are mountains of snowy mashed potatoes swimming in lakes of gravy.... white chicken gravy, white sausage gravy, redeye gravy, brown pork gravy... And grits.... plain grits, cheese grits, shrimp grits...

Stewed chicken, chicken and dumplings, Roasted Chicken, Pulled Pork, Texas Steaks... T-Bones, Sirloins, Ribeyes, .... There is a side of beef and a haunch of venison out roasting in the yard.... and briskets and ribs in the smoker..  Country ham is sliced thin and sweet.... 

There are oysters, shrimp, blue crab, grouper, redfish, drum, and flounder fresh from the coast....

Do try a koolickle...  they are really special.

Don't miss the flakey biscuits and the crisp corn bread...   and the desserts... coconut cake, pecan pie, apple pie, peach pie and cobblers of all sorts....  yummm Dewberry Cobbler... 

And all washed down with big glasses of Sweet Tea....  and Mint Julips...  good Kentucky Bourbon... White Lightening....  some special Moonshine....  pick your poison at the bar....

Pull up a chair and set a spell....  Anything you don't see.... just ask.... there are lots of off the menu specials today....
