ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Folks who are wheelchair bound may soon be able to get around downtown easier. Albany public works has a crew dedicated full-time to sidewalk and ramp repair within the downtown area.
We found them working at the corner of Monroe Street and Pine Avenue Tuesday.
Director Phil Roberson says it's part of a $1 Million sales tax project to get the city in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
He said, "A lot of folks that are wheelchair bound have complained about not being able to access downtown and to the hospitals so through the commissions direction, we've concentrated our efforts downtown."
Sidewalk repair downtown will continue for about three more years.
