Okay, I had to share this because my mom and I went into convulsive laughter this evening. Doesn't it feel good when you laugh so hard you cry?
Well I was sitting on the back porch with my mom this evening, after the kids fell asleep, and was enjoying the cooling evening air. I was reading a book I received yesterday by an author named Roger Dean Kiser called "Pearls Of Kindness." I read a few of the stories to my mom. There were moments where we were both close to tears (happy as well as sad), and also moments of heavy laughter. Mr. Kiser definitely has a way with words. He really is an awesome author and his work is definitely worth reading. They are all stories from his life, and he has lived a full one! I can't wait to finish this one and get more of his work.
So I'm sitting there reading a story silently as my mom is telling me something. I'm not really hearing much of what she says because I'm so wrapped up in the book. By the way, it takes a lot to get me that interested in a book. I'm a very picky reader. A lot of books, I lose interest within the first few pages. Not so with this book! Well, she finishes talking and I realize she asked me a question about buying something tomorrow for the kids. I thought I heard the word "disposable" somewhere in the conversation. She said, "So, what do you think? They're not too expensive are they?" I replied with, "Disposable cameras? They're like $6-$8 a piece!"
She gives me the usual "you're crazy" look and she starts laughing.
"What?!" I say.
"I don't know what you're talking about!" she says, and begins to repeat what she had said.
She had apparently explained to me that the kids really enjoyed the peach tea and pink lemonade mixes that I had bought a couple weeks ago and I should pick up some more tomorrow for them. And she also said she didn't think they were too expensive.
"So.... you didn't say the word "disposable" at all?" I asked her, starting to lose my composure even more than before. That's when she started laughing so hard I had to ask her if she was okay. No, by the way, nothing was said at all about disposable anything!
Then she said that she talks about things in her classes. She's going to college right now for a degree in Human Services and quite a few things they do in class or for papers are about "real events" or "experiences." I guess she uses me for the more crazy discussions, lol. So now she's telling me she has got to remember this discussion for class. Well, if they didn't think I was crazy before I'm sure they will now!
Anyways, I had to share the story with you. And I'm sure it's one of those "you had to be there" things to really find it humorous. But I had to share it with someone.
By the way.....
Please check out Mr. Kiser's work. It is wonderfully written!
