Motown Songs

I'm constantly reminded of how good the music of the late 50's and 60's is (some of the 70's too).  In particular, Motown.  While searching for one of my favorites, "Do You Love Me" by the Contours, I came across many names of other songs that are classic and often played in commericals or on TV.  So, I was wondering, what are some of your favorites?  Do you think we'll ever be able to get back to this style without sampling older material?

Do the supremes or the four tops count? I have always liked Motown. We had BoyzIIMen- not sure about this music making a comeback. Perhaps just an influence in some of the music.

I just got the new Usher CD- there is a song on there- very classic appeal. It could be a throw back to older music. Great music is hard to pass up.

What did you think of Next II None on America's Got Talent? They seemed kind of fresh and out of the box. Need a lot of refining, but I was impressed by their first appearance. Going to Vegas!!!!

Soldier Boy was probably produced by Phil Spector featuring either the Dixie Cups, The Ronnettes, the Crystals, the Shangra Las, or one of the other girl bands of the day. It all sort of sounds about the same to me, the wall of sound as it has been called. There are certain composers who stand out from the crowd, like Burt Bacharach (with lyricist Hal David) and his cavalcade of hit singles, or the guy who wrote hit after hit (no fluke) for Glen Campbell and Richard Harris (his name escapes me for the moment), and you can tell them apart from everybody else. Motown is a lot of people working together on the sound, and you can't always nail it down as easily. Motown has a remarkable range of talents and styles. A wonderful expanse of energized recording art inspired by the black renaissance that we probably won't see happen again!

I love soo many of the oldies.. 50's, 60's, 70's.. even some 40's.. and 80's...and 90's.. LOL I don't think we'll ever get back to that style.. music tends to change and progress.. but, you never know.. it may come around again to a similar style...they say.. all that's old is eventually new again..
