Hi everyone,
I'm hoping you can help me out today. A bunch of us are sitting around the Gather offices talking about what makes Gather special. The content, the conversations, the people, the ideas. The list is long, thank goodness! But we thought it would be cool to find out what you, the Gather members, think. What is it that you like most about Gather and why? Why do you spend time here over other sites? Who knows, if your answers are terrific, we might just use them in a future ad campaign (with your permission, of course!)
Thanks for your help,
Pam

the intresting articles and OH the Freebies that are listed daily:)
(Sounds like Tom needs to crack the whip a little more)
kidding
:)
It's a harsh reality that most of the Indian girls, who comes with their software husbands are isolation and depressed. They don't have work to do, they don't know where to start and exactly what to do.Life is so much differet here. They are in a culture shock and in all this they rush to psychiatrists and doctors.Last Feb, I gotta know about GATHER apart with many other sites, I have account on them but honestly this is the only place where I feel like home.
Whole day I am all alone but virtually surrounded with so many good friends, great writers and lot of projects going in my mind. All this is enough for me to say that What makes Gather really special.
I came here to start writing again and I have. I love that there is an opportunity to do opinion pieces, humor even photo essays.
I hope you don't upgrade me out of here.
And I love my Borders Cards.
And there's a FAN CLUB to ME, here. How cool is that !!!!
This site attracts some talenetd people!
The photographs and artwork.
The money (although I wish I didn't have to work so hard for it).
Gather is a place of artistry, debate, and friendship. What a great place to be!
But as I searched out other Photographers photos I started to expand ...not everyone making comments were photographers but writers, artist and poets...I started to explore and discovered.. for example...Delaune Michel a beautiful and sweet Author whose wonderful book I ordered through Amazon and am on the last few pages.....then there is Karl Klein a talented artist in many forms...I discovered a writer of humor John Phillip that would always answer back with humor on whatever comment you made on his witty Monday .....
I joined Gather only recently and it was during a time of change for Gather...I had some concerns and discovered a real and caring person Of Gather that really listened...Pam Johnson and she became a Friend...
And last..but not least I found online people I genuinely care about..., pray for during times of their trouble ...knowing they will extend a hand to me if I needed to reach out and that their concern would be real....not artist or writers or photographers...just people living their lives and wanting to share their thoughts, homes and even baby pictures with others...
Oh...I'm still discoverering and uncovering things that delight...a few days ago I came across a poet.....a romantic....he is now a friend...sweet
I also met another wonderful person, who wishes to remain secret, when my brother had a terrible accident! i posted an article here on Gather and posted updates as I knew them. This person took our family under her wing and was and still is simply amazing. We have "adopted" her as our grandma and my kids and family send her photos in the mail as well as letters on a regualr basis. She still, a year after my brothers accident, sends him gifts and cards in the mail to keep his spirits up!
Plus, the majority of the gather members are so helpful and supportive, we're like a community that enjoys helping one another!
Kathryn Esplin-Oleski.
I love friendships I have made. I read a diverse group of stuff.
I belong to BT also and LOVE their gift cards but it doesn't provide the personal touch that Gather does.
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
That place is Gather .
Gather is a city ,a world , at your fingertips. It is constantly in flux. It's predictable unpredictability.
It's a collection of serious to whimsical creativity ,a microcosm of a global society exposing the best and worst of human expression.
The most prized aspect of Gather ,personally ,is as valuable forum for experimenting or testing and stretching one's ability for self expression in many mediums with instant feedbackwhile appreciating the same from others.
I came originally for writing and political discussions. Since writing and writers are not valued and are harder with each upgrade to find on Gather, and you decided to let those who don't care about critique or dissenting views delete comments, and I know where to find dedicated writers and real discussion, something else keeps me here.
I think the something else(s) are:
1) Although navigation is not optimal, Gather is still easier to look at and faster than other sites.
2) I enjoy the easy flow of conversation on Gather. It 'feels' like being in a room with other people.
3) I appreciate the money.
First of all, I am raising my inner child. She needed healing and I've been able to incorporate a social life as well as a blog and plus talk about almost anything under the sun here on Gather. Of course, I love the community spirit and realizing that so many of us, no matter where we grew up or were born, are alike in more ways than not. We come together because we want to express ourselves and Gather has given us the freedom to do that. Some folks like to write detailed articles and others just like to play games. I jump around and enjoy them all. I also like taking virtual trips through amazing photographs and videos. Recently, one of my Gather friends did a wonderful book review on one of my books and so that opened up another world for me. So overall, Gather is a great way to interact with many folks and never leave the comforts of home; therefore, saving gas, earning points or money and learning new things daily! Salud.
The interesting articles about every subject under the sun.
The opportunity to make friends and get points.
So far I love contributing pictures and articles, about my travels, my garden, my interests and the occasional politics or opinion piece on whatever is in the news or just plain moves me.
I discovered writers and poets and I enjoy the occasional chat. Each day on gather is new and different. I have formed a strong connection with several people - all in all, it is a joy to come here every day, gathering with my friends.
....and last not least I am becoming a better photographer.
Please pass the tissues.
Gather is unlike any other website, bar none. LOVE IT!!!
The Gather/Borders First Chapters writing contest is also an excellent example of why Gather is a great place for writers and those of us who love great writing. Every day, there is helpful information posted on Gather on writing topics, and there are myriad writing groups dedicated to every genre you can think of.
In short, whether you love to read or aspire to be the next great American novelist, Gather has something for you.
I miss some very talented Gather members.
Can someone please hand J P a tissue to wipe the brown stuff off his nose:)
No matter what you're looking for, you can find it on Gather!
True, I periodically read trash. But the majority of the time when I am not in a thick-skinned state of mind, I'd rather read and see more pleasant things.
Also, to me, Gather is easier for a more mature, not-so-computer-savvy, person to navigate than some other places.
So, from my point of view, it's the grey matter not brown, Lori.
Hey! You're not the boss of Joseph! You've lived with it this long . . . what's another . . . umm . . . while? LoL!
Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~
It is however true that the level of the postings and discussions, on average, is higher on Gather than on most similar sites, and I haven't seen the level of interaction that occurs on some threads anywhere else. Controversial topics and questions of course attract a lot more traffic than calm essays or short stories, but then the typical "writing" site doesn't have a high membership or traffic. It's a precarious balance, but I think Gather could do a little more to ensure the consistent quality of featured material, and to search out those excellent pieces that are posted on the site but not submitted to any of the "essentials" group (perhaps because they wouldn't fit).
GATHER.COM IS THE BEST PLACE FOR WEBSPACE!
Destin Tanero ,
One thing that has disturbed me lately, though, is the level of intolerance and outright hate-mongering in political discussions. I'm all for free speech, but I have to tell you, comments and insults flung here are far worse that anything Don Imus has ever said on air. It's enough to send me packing.

Another thing that makes it different is - affiliation. I first heard about Gather through my public radio station, 91.1 KNOW (mpr), and have been a member for three years. I don't need to look elsewhere for this kind of experience because I trust that connection.
The ability to earn is, of course, a major difference from other networking sites. The fact that Gather offers an easy earning interface sets it apart from other writing sites that offer payouts.
(and, yes, what everyone else said)
I'd do anything for My Gather.
Well almost anything lol
The friends I have made keep me here.
