The non partisan watchdog group Citizens against pork barrel waste just came out with their new PIG book.It details pork barrel projects inserted into bills by members of congress.
These bills cost taxpayers $17.2 BILLION this year alone.
Barack Obama is high up on the piggy list.He accounted for 53 earmark costing us taxpayers $97.4 million dollars!
And guess who had $0,nada,none......John Mccain

First, this amount is nothing in comparison to the overall budget. Secondly, most of this spending would happen with or without earmarking. The simple fact is, most of this spending is what is deemed necessary, and would likely pass as individual spending bills, if they were introduced as such.
Finally, the king of sleazy lobbyist entanglements is probably the last person in Washington who should be talking about pork spending.

Somehow I don't recall asking for that.
Not likely, since he's a democrat, and it's been republicans who've spent like drunken sailors, not democrats. Bush alone has managed to grow the size of the federal government by a whopping 25% in his miserable reign of terror.
Since we already know that McBush is going to be another 4 years of the same, we know that he would massively expand federal debt spending yet more.
How can seemingly semi intelligent people be so blinded by crooked politicians?
Oh yeah , tax breaks and unnecessary wars/death are like good oral sex to you fools.
Is there such thing as "bad" oral sex?
His campaign posititions absolutely echo Bush's. He's for tax cuts for the rich, endless war in Iraq with no way to pay for it, running up the national debt, and no health care. He's an old disaster waiting to happen.
First, this amount is nothing in comparison to the overall budget.
LMAO. Clark, where do you suppose Obama will get that "nothing amount" of money? Is he going to give it out of his campaign fund? I know, one of his corporate friends will donate it.
Democrats are the "give away" party. Tax the middle class and give it to the lazy people who don't want a job.
Isn't it nice to be surrounded by so many people who couldn't find their heads with both hands?
Don supports the same people who brought us "trickle down" economics, high gas prices, record mortgage foreclosures, torture and illegitimate war, a devalued dollar and the gutting of the fourth amendment.
And all they can do is parrot the same old pseudo conservative line.
McCain is going to spend 300 MILLION tax dollars rewarding his buddies for inventing a new battery. Where's your outrage against that?
He's raising taxes on the upper 5%, and could easily shave tens, if not hundreds of billions of dollars out of the trillion dollar defense spending, just by slashing corruption and fraud.
"Democrats are the "give away" party."
Unlike the republiCON party, which NEVER hands billions over to their wealthy corporate campaign contributors, right? Fool.
" Tax the middle class and give it to the lazy people who don't want a job. "
Funny, but it's republiCONs who continually raise taxes on the middle class in order to shovel public wealth towards the upper class, who don't have a job, except to rake in government pork and investment millions.
Want to know who levied the biggest tax increase on the middle class in US history? Your hero, the St. Redink Ronnie. He dramatically raised the regressive payroll tax, causing a MASSIVE tax increase on the middle class. Welcome to reality-land, fool.
Only the middle class is what makes America a strong nation - - The teacher who teacher your kids, the concrete worker you pours your sidewalks, the scientist who discovers a new technology, the carpenter who builds your homes, the law enforcement officer who puts his life on the line to keep you safe, the volunteer soldier who fights your wars. The middle class America that goes to work everyday to earn a wage to pay his bills, put food on the table, buy gas for his car, pay his rent or mortgage, and if he is lucky enough, have a little left over to enjoy life. It is the middle class America who drives the economy by making purchases, whether out of necessity or for pleasure.
It is the middle class America who is told how much he is going to be paid for his labor, told how much taxes he is going to pay from those wages, told how much he is going to pay for the items he purchases, and then in the end, expected to make ends meet, on a completely unlevel playing field.
I voted for Red Ink Ronnie, and I have been getting screwed ever since.
I will NEVER forgive the Republican Party for how they have screwed me ever since.
I will vote for Barak Obama.
I hope Obama will raise the upper tax brackets by 20%
I hope Obama will lower the middle and lower brackets by 10%
I hope he eliminates the tax loopholes the wealthy enjoy to avoid paying taxes.
I hope he removes the itemized deduction limitations for the middle class.
I hope he reinstates credit card interest and sales taxes as itemized deductions.
I hope he eliminates the AMT, which now only targets the middle class.
I would like to see people who earn less than 50k/yr pay NO taxes.
I would like to see Obama cut out all of the wasteful spending, especially in the military.
I would like to see Obama eliminate commodity speculation on oil and other critical markets.
I would like to see Obama curtail subsidies to corporations who have profits above a certain level.
I would like to see Obama create government sponsored jobs to rebuild America's crumbling infrastructure, given to American workers who are jobless, paying them a decent wage.
I would like the see unearned income taxed at a higher rate than earned income.
It is ridiculous that we should penalize work. We should penalize LACK of work!
My vote is for Barak Obama.
He may not achieve these things.
But I am damn sure he is a better bet than John McCain.
PS: All you wingnuts who call Obama the anointed one, why do you guys consider Red Ink Ronnie the Anointed One, when he has put the screws to so many middle class Americans?
Just sayin'
earmarks are dangerous because they are far too often simple vote buying schemes supporting things that do NOT come under anything resembling the general welfare clause nor would they pass an open vote so thats why they are inserted in bigger bills...we all know congressmen are honest and are just trying to save voting time by massing these helpful earmarks for a single vote instead of standing on their own for individual votes.
that said, both these morons are running up huge proposed bills but only the Repub ones are bad.
