Miranda Adastra Drinking Tea at Goldie O'keefe's Tripping Tea House by Isis Andersen

Those were the days.

Lovely poem. Reminds me of an early Joni Mitchell song.

Far out, Isis. (If I could use the appropriate parlance). You seem to have channeled the spirit of '67 in the Haight, the positive vibes of love and optimism, the sense that we can change the world...all the power of dreams that welled up in that place and found such beautiful expression in the words of masters like Dylan and Lennon. I adore these last lines:

she's the barefoot girl
with the big bag of books
with rose colored glasses
and rose colored looks.

Thank heavens these sentiments and the people that embody them still exist.

Your new perspective on this habitual event in a once upon time reminds me of the observer frame paradox in the Einsteinan perspective on spacetime, all distorted of course by my own shimmering engrams, a decade too late. Same cast of characters, same qualia, same poetic assemblage, but new set of meanings, new softness and wonder, a refracted voice brings in Miranda as if cued from Wonderland but ready to go down the rabbit hole.
Isis, go deeper into the deck.

John you see it ten years later and I see it as a kid at that time looking up to these young adults who were so fascinating and so excited about life and thinking about everything and believing in their power to change the world.

It was such an exciting time but I could not participate fully for I could not catch up with them. I was always waiting to grow up and catch up but you do not exactly because it has all moved on by the time you do. So it is just beyond reach... yet one reaches and I did and do here in memory.

Those jeans were mine though.. again I wanted to be like the grown ups so I made them and they were not perfect but the best bead work I could do at that age. I wanted the ankh and the peace symbol... and I still love ankhs and wear them now but not on my jeans! I have the rose colored glasses too... so cool. And a purple velvet opera coat.. really hippie gear.. old coat.. I wear with jeans. So counter culture.

So I look at this time through the eyes of childhood and remember the excitement of listening to everyone talk about the meaning of it all.. and John Lennon and Bob Dylan... who were so important.

Goldie O'keefe was a character on the old Smother's Brothers show.. a Hippie housewife who would open her segment called: "Share a little tea with Goldie"
by saying... High... Higgggggggghhhhhh... is such a way that I remember my babysitter April (a full fledged flower child as opposed to me.. a petal child)
saying: "OH my God! She can't say that on tv!" but they got away with it because so many people didn't get the joke at the time. The joke was in her name too.. Goldie from "Acapulco gold".

Isis, your poem and your comments brought back some memories. I see Goldie as the ideal that was strived for by many in the 1960's. And I can see her in your words. In the 1960's I too was not old enough to participate. I remember being so jealous because my brother was @ Woodstock and I had to stay @ home with my mom (who was crabby @ the time!) because I was to young. I was wondering where you got the O'Keefe because the first thing that popped into my head was Georgia. Thank you for sharing this @ Post Art - Any Medium!

Chana the Smother's Brothers named their character "Goldie O'keefe" and she was played by Leigh French. I wish I could see all of those shows again.

I don't know.. maybe they are available. Should look.

So she was very real and well played by Leigh!

I knew IMMEDIATELY who "Goldie" was/is... I remember SO WELL the "Have a cup of tea with Goldie" sketches from the old Smothers Brothers Show!!! They were HILARIOUS!!!

I remember one during Christmas time... Goldie says:

"You don't have to spend a lot of money on ornaments for your Christmas tree... Oh, no! You can take an ordinary object -- say, these used tea bags... dip them in glitter [which she proceeds to do] and hang them on your tree! Look! Lovely! Just LOVELY!"

ROFLMBO!!!

(kind of the "hippy Martha Stewart"... LOL!)
