Although Greenbo Lake State Park, encompassing 3,300 acres, has much more to offer than hiking, this past Sunday, after attending a family reunion there we ventured on the Michael Tygart seven-mile loop trail. Although sore when arriving home, I'm glad to say we completed it.
The resort's fieldstone lodge is named in honor of Jesse Hilton Stuart (1906-1984), Poet Laureate and native of Greenup County. A restaurant, serving three meals, is a part of the lodge.
Besides hiking other things to enjoy are the lake and all the amenities it has to offer with various types of boat rental, fishing, camping, mini-golf, and picnicking.
Below are pictures of the trail we hiked. The trail is named for Michael Tygart, the early Kentucky explorer. It follows the lake for two miles of the seven. Along the trail one can see old abandoned home sites dating back to the 1800's along with animal and wild life and a historic cemetery. The trail can also be used by mountain bikers and in some areas horse riders.
