Just read a comment my sister made re: selling prints of sunset pictures at our store.... it reminded me of a conversation I'd overheard at Staples last time I was there.... they were doing up an order of postcards for someone.

I wonder if it might be worth getting a bunch made up.

No one sells any of our area that I've ever seen. And there are a bunch of tourists. Hmmm....

I wonder if some o' my sunset pictures might work for that. I seem to have an abundance.

I think it is a great idea, cheaper than the framing aspect and I think there is a market for them. I love a good sunset and you do have the perfect spot for it. Good luck with it.

Ross likes one of a kind t-shirts too .... but that gets bluddy expensive what with ink, keeping a variety of sizes and so on .... if we'd got the machine that does transfers when we tried (a t-shirt press) ... I'd be more inclined to go that route... but since we didn't... iron on just doesn't cut it ...and I HATE ironing

I think you should give it a try. I never find postcards around here and sometimes I'd like to send them. You should add the info on the bottom of where you are. (city, Canada)

flit, these are gorgeous. I think it is a great idea. Don't give up on tee-shirts. I think you can get into silkscreening without a lot of upstart and on tee shirts your work space can remain fairly small. I bet it would work!

I think it's a great idea. Check out Kodakgallery.com and Shutterfly.com as they have other products the photos would look really good on, and often offer good discounts for new users. You could do mugs, canvas bags, etc. in addition to the photos. If they don't sell, well then guess what everyone gets for Christmas!!

I think it's a great idea, flit! Perhaps you could even team up with a local conservancy organization & donate part of the profits. That way the Citiots would be paying to clean up their own mess. :-)

If you're going to do postcards of your area for tourists to purchase I would suggest two things: Don't just limit yourself to the sunsets. I'm sure you have other lovely photos of the natural attractions of your area; and secondly, don't forget to add a description of what the photo is about. "Logan Lake at sunset" etc. As a tourist I like to buy postcards of where I'm at to send to others but also to remind me of the trip so I like it when the depiction is clearly labeled somewhere.

We often buy prints or postcards of the areas we travel to, it certainly is worth a try and shouldn't be a huge investment to give it a shot!

If it isn't too much to have them printed up I'd give it a shot. Your photos are gorgeous, have them print in the location or something funny depending on the card.

I know that office depot, Kinko's that other orange store - office supply stores run specials on their printing - sometimes it's T-shirts or mugs and sometimes it's postcards and other stuff.

Plus vista prints who does those free on line business cards - they do postcards too. I bet the cheapest is probably some place on line. I've always wanted to do a calendar for my garden pics and found out too late that office depot had a super deal right after Christmas.

Calendar, post cards, prints. They all sound good to me. I've made quite a few pictures for walls in clusters of post cards. My brother had a hall full. He'd have Einstein, saints, famous artists, anyone who he could put up and teach his daughter about. It was fun to go browse through his gallery.

You have some lovely photos and it seems a shame that they just sit on your computer. Wouldn't be too difficult to make a package of, say 10 note cards in a package with assorted pictures, would it? Or a computer program of assorted pictures that could be used as a screen saver or in one of those frames that have the changing photos? (Buy 2, use 1 in the shop and have the other available to sell. You can buy more as and if you sell them.)

I would like a large size one of the first picture and I'll frame it myself if you are looking for Christmas presents btw.

Flit, you absolutely should look into getting these pictures to a larger audience for money. Right now, I believe all things are possible, so get out there and become th Steve Jobs of Canadian Sunset Postcards, my hummingbird friend.
