Is it any wonder that Ross & I love thunderstorms? All of these pictures were taken last night in the space of less than an hour.
Scrooge was SO not impressed with the fact that I went out across the street to take pictures in the swamp right before the storm. The sky wasn't too bad yet, but you could hear the rumbling of thunder in the distance. I always know when there's going to be a storm because he plasters himself to my leg.

A little while after that first shot - about 10 minutes I think - the sky was getting very dark to the left. But the sun was still out, and the sky was blue to the right.

The storm itself wasn't all that much. Since I have not yet mastered taking pictures of lightening, I mostly amused myself by trying to get pictures of the rain coming down in streams from the roof of the deck. I did it too, see? (We won't talk about how many unsucessfull shots I also took before I got the hang of it.)

And then I played with framing, using the leaves on the trees that I keep suggesting that Ross should trim back a bit for me, as my views are getting smaller and smaller. I love trees...but come on! I want to see the lake too.

The storm didn't last all that long. I tried to get a picture of the tern? some sort of bird that is like a seagull but not quite - that kept diving in for fish, but didn't manage a good one.
Poor Scrooge was SO not happy at having to be outside during a storm. He opted for the safety of me over being inside by himself though.

Within a few minutes of the storm ending, Ross got home from work and it was time to go out and watch the second sunset.

This one was taken with the night portrait camera setting rather than the sunset setting. While it makes for a pretty dramatic image, I thought, the sunset images are the colours we were actually seeing - or closest to, anyway.

Back to the sunset setting.

And then the mosquitoes started and it was time to go in.

Some beautiful images and you are so good with the photography. We have a good camera, but dont know how to use the zoom or the other great things about it. I bought Donald a 35 ml camera about 9 years ago that has a tripod and we can take pictures of the moon and eclispses , But then have to have developed and scan into computer. Wish we knew another way.
Just checking my email and saw yours so thought I'd come check it out to let you know I was here.
This is an awesome photo essay Flit. Your pictures were so clear it was like I was there.
Good Job
Poor Scrooge! I wanted to hug him!
poor Scrooge...hehe excellent sunset shots... Blessings...
I'm being A beach bum this week I will return comments as i can,
there is NO place to get local postcards here
I love storms also. My dad and I used to go walking in them. When my kids were young I'd take them outside to smell the ozone. If there wasn't any lightening and it was warm, we'd play in it.
Thanks so much for posting to =Sky Shots=! I'm going to feature this in the group!
Loved your beautiful photos, too! It was like getting a taste of being there.
I've never had a camera before, so I'm enjoying learning how to take pictures. It's so nice having a delete button to get rid of all the mistakes.
