I swear, I could cry when I think of how many men and women have died defending this country and the freedoms we once had. In the passed 20 years we have pissed away so many of them.
The two main reason for the War in 1776 was 1) billeting of English soldiers in private homes and 2) warrant-less searches and seizures.
We aren't making private citizens keep the military in their homes, but at the rate we are going, who knows?
However, our president and the seemly uneducated congress and senate are hell-bent on giving us warrant-less searches on a permanent basis. As un-American, disgraceful, unconstitutional, and downright treasonous the Patriot Act was, at least it had an end. Now they want to preserve the absolute worst part of it.
When a warrant is served by a administrative branch (i.e. the Attorney General, or any lower minions, even at state and local levels), or legislative (i.e. congress, senate, state houses, etc.) they should have review by the judiciary. That is called "checks and balances". It is not perfect but at least it is a little control on the absolute certainty of abuse of power.
It also appears that we need more checks on the judiciary especially the Supreme Court, whose rulings are based more and more on public opinion and politics and not on the constitution. That is one of the reasons we needed more people like Robert Bork. Those of you who fought against him should be ashamed. Hang your heads and cry!
Now it looks like Bush and the power hungry bunch that surrounds him, and the non-elected bureaucrats yearning for control of our lives are going to get their way. It is bad enough that the Republicans are going along with this, but so are the Democrats. Don't any of you ever tell me that Democrats or liberals are for the people, freedom of speech, etc. Bull-feathers. This proves the point dramatically.
Oh, they bill and coo about the changes they agreed to, and the other side b-----s and moans about what they had to give up, but the bottom line is the frog has gotten a little more cooked and isn't likely to jump out of the hot water anytime soon.
If you don't think this is important, ask the Russians. The Soviet Union has been gone for over a decade and the KGB is still operating (under a different name), and is now in control of the government. As my wife says, these people are like cockroaches, because no matter what you do, you can't get rid of them. Do we really want to go down that road?
If it sounds like I'm teed off, you're right. We are constantly being sold down the river and it is looking every day like we are going to have to put a stop to all of this. Call it what you want, but you have to make a choice, and I think you know which side I'm on.
We need to respond and fight back, and now. I know a lot of you feel as I do. I don't know much about organizing, but it is obvious we have to do something, before more drastic actions have to be taken.
Stop the madness,
The Hammer

Article the sixth ...... The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
The United States House of Representatives has chosen to ignore the Bill of Rights and will allow wiretaps without warrants. Do you favor of oppose this vote? Why?
All I can ask of you is to contact your elected Representatives and senators on Monday asking them to protect our most basic rights.
Benjamin Franklin said "those willing to give up liberty for security deserve neither liberty or security." George Bush says Freedom brings about peace well what happens when you take away freedoms? Why are our men and women dying to give the Iraqi people freedom when we are losing ours? What Franklin said applied 232 yrs ago and applies now as well. How much more are We the People going to stand for before we stand up for ourselves? If we dont draw a line in the sand now what is going to be left to save for future generations? Is this the legacy we really want to be remembered for?
I, too, may have believed this to be true until GW took office and I have watched, mouth gaped open in shock, as he, one man, destroyed my country.
But, I can be taught. One person CAN change the world. In this case for the bad....
Maybe I'm too much a cynic, but the same type of money that runs this president is behind the Obama and Mccain, if not the actual same donors. Do you realize there is already almost $600,000,000 dollars in the kitty, not counting the side money.
One of the problems is that this government for the past 20 years has been run by public opinion. If you don't agree with Bush, just remember public opinion gave him his boost.
Why should the Supreme Court be appointed for life?
They shouldn't and this is one of the points that were of concern to the founding fathers. Unfortunately it was never written and only generally understood. Even presidential term limits were an amendment. Senators are elected for a term of 6 years but their is no rules regarding term limits and there needs to be.
Like they only rule on Constitutional issues?
Everything they rule on is a constitutional issue though the original "issue" in question usually over shadows the real issue which is the unconstitutionality of whatever legislative act or executive order is being tried. The majority of the "laws" enacted in the past 50 years are unconstitutional yet even when ruled unconstitutional they are upheld in lower courts often under the guise of "state law".
The misrepresentation of the 6th article of the constitution is another area of concern although it clearly states that congress has over stepped it's bounds on the fourth amendment and the SC acting in poor faith has upheld it. There are a growing number of highly respected web sites that intentionally misconstrue and ad-lib the laws in an obvious attempt to sway public opinion.
Article VI
All debts contracted and engagements entered into, before the adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.
This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.
The second amendment is the rule for a revolution but requires some steps to be taken first. In order for a successful revolution you need to establish order and have people ready to fill the vacant positions clearly stating their obligations and authority along with term limits and provisions for elections.
Thanks
Bert
Find an American who had had their rights infringed by the Patriot Act, and I'll join your cause. On the other hand, every one of us has benefitted from our government's ability to intercept terrorist communications. That's why we've been free of attacks for 7YEARS!
Grow up kids.

However, I do not believe the Patriot Act was anything like Patriotic, and I am a die-hard conservative.
I have no problem with the intercepting communications, I am right with them on that, but, they should have to get a warrant just like everyone else. There has to be oversight of some sort, not just a blank check.
We do not need tyranny to protect us.
