This morning the day-after-full moon
lingered a while to savor the taffeta pre-dawn sky.
She chose to use the extra seconds of the
longest day of the year honoring her source of light.
She did not even mind that we see her only because
she reflects the sun.
The sherbet colored horizon was just too
lovely to forego. It was the last day of spring.
Tomorrow's dawn heralded a new season and
she was not quite finished with the current one.
I sat there with her and pondered how the night
gives way to dawn; how the seasons change,
unbidden yet perfectly planned. How life ensues
in a steady rhythm unnoticed yet essential,
untended yet unerring. Night and day. Dawn and dusk.
Like the certain rise and fall of waves upon the sand.
Before I went inside to begin the duties of my day
she whispered to me, "Take heed moon daughter.
Take care earth mother. Life is short and eternity
lasts forever."
