But back to yesterday. Our plans were made. We would spend two hours at the Beach, then take a tour of a beach cottage that Fran might want to rent and then a trip over to Newfield House, the Nursing Home where Mom now resides. Although there were big clouds in the sky, obviously not the sunny day we had planned, we decided to go ahead with our agenda. Stopping at Dunkin' Donuts in Manomet, we picked up coffee, bagels and a jelly donut for Fran. Then it was off to our secluded spot....

Because it was rather windy and a bit chilly, we chose a spot near the rocks to "camp out" and then the girls went down to test the water...ummm...a bit cold.

All too soon it was almost 11 o'clock and we needed to walk up to the cottage that Fran wanted to check out for a summer rental. We met the owner and took a tour of the place but we all found it a bit "fancy" for our idea of a "beach house" and the $2700/week price tag didn't set well either. But I did find the porch enchanting and those are the only images I took.

Back on the beach once more, raindrops were falling but we saw blue skies to the south so we decided not to
leave...it was actually warmer now and Alyssa decided that Fran and I should learn some yoga moves.

"Aunty Bobbie, Gram tells me you keep falling. Yoga is just the thing for you. As you age...and both of you are getting up there...you need to concentrate on improving your balance."
"Alyssa, we are not old yet. Your Gram is only 66 and I'm 62. We are as young as we feel. Look at us, we are in great shape!"
"Great shape? Let's do some yoga....our towels can be our mats."
Fran and I have always been pu to a challenge so come along and watch. Actually, these images are from the second run of our routine since I couldn't hold a camera and take pictures as I was doing a "Downward-Facing Dog"!

Hell, we may be in our 60's, but I don't think we are ready for any Nursing Home. As the girls finished up the second round of poses, I had to smile. We can mentor the young; but in the end, the young can teach us a few things. All we need to do is listen...and to take some risks. It would have been easy for Fran and I not to take the challenge of learning something new. But challenges have always presented themselves to us and we can never say no....even if we do look like a bunch of fools on a deserted beach. Why not? We only live once.

Thanks for the feature in the Triple Name Club.
and I'm giggling over the fact that so many people want to see a picture of your behind :)
I do believe Flit I will keep practicing both the Eagle and tree pose...both good for balance. It's amazing what the young can teach us. They keep us young.
Now I need to get my act together. Need to make it down to the Cape to a Family ReUnion. Getting over the bridge at the Cape Cod Canal is going to be a bit of a problem. Everyone from the City will be trying to get to the beaches. Rats! Though Dennis is really only a 45 minute drive during the week, it will probably take me two or three hours today.
I'm cracking up over the yoga on the beach - although, I have to admit it looks like they are doing a terrific job of it:)
You could send some of that chilliness our way - we were at the beach Friday night and if it wasn't for the ocean breeze it would have been unbearably hot even between seven and nine in the evening.
I was real happy with my first ever sunset at the beach shots - just put up my article this morning.
Mother nature is the greatest artist.
Your in the same age bracket as Fran and I...perhaps you should try yoga. The only hard part is remembering the names for the different moves.
High lunge, Low lunge
Downward Facing Dog,
Sphinx Pose, Cobra Pose
Wide-legged forward bend.
Eagle Pose, Tree Pose
Warrior Pose too, how
the hell do you make
this old body move
like the wind?
Your pics are so inspiring that it gives another dimension to come up with Yoga.I love it, it's adorable , the way you are enjoying it, enjoying excerises. I am speechless after seeing the photos. It gives me a feeling to stand and go to beach :)
my group
This caught my attention today, as a parade of yoga-doers went by the house with their mats this morning, headed for the beach. Coincidence? I think not.
Yes, the young can certainly teach us...we are quite lucky to have young people in our lives.
As you can see, it's a most deserted beach yet a mile down the road there were umbrellas on top of umbrellas. That Alyssa found a great spot and no parking fees! Can't beat that!
Ivy:
My body definitely needs work at staying flexible. As for the yoga, Alyssa was teaching both of us and then when we were just breathing on our towels, I said, "Ummm, this would make a great photo essay, are you guys ready to go through it again. Must say, I didn't even think about having my fingers doing yoga while clicking the button. Next time I will be sure to have those fingers and eyes working.
The $2,700 per week rent for the beach house seems way, way over the top ... but I expect that someone with a thick wallet will pay it. But I wouldn't.
I like the mix of small, grouped photos and the larger ones - it adds interest. The beach certainly was secluded.
I also can't help but agree with you about "listen & take some risks"...you summed it up nicely there!
I hope your visit with your mom went well.
This wasn't boot camp...this was for fun! Didn't you love the sky pictures? You just wait, when you finally get to the States, I'll be a real pro at yoga and I'll teach you everything I know.
Mom was doing fine. I brought a DVD of my kindergarten class performing and she thought it was great. Then we had punch and cookies in the Big Room. All in all, it was a good visit.
I'm yoga-in' in the rain,
What a glorious feeling,
I'm happy again....
Bottom out
Head up
Tongue out
Cameron would be proud :)
(I will have you know also that he sang that song to me every time we were waiting for the school bus when it was raining)
You have that great beach in Santa Barbara.....go for it...yoga on the beach is so much fun.
A few shocks? Giggles are fine but shocks. Both Fran and Alyssa are good sports...they don't mind their hineys going over the internet!
I used to do ballet not that many years ago to help with balance and strength. Yup! Never to old.
Thanks for posting to By The Sea.
You should come and join us.
Bobbi:
Maybe I should take up ballet?! I do need to work on BALANCE!
Thanks Kimber...I will do anything for a laugh!
Thanks so much for posting to All Photo Essays Here!
Thanks Lilith for stopping by. Put down your towel and join us in yoga.
I will bring you and the girls to this secret little beach. It's wonderful...no crowds at all...no parking fee.
Welcome to White Horse Beach! My grandmother started coming to WHB in the late 1800's so its been here for awhile.
