In the town where I live many are under a big scare right now and the Mississippi River continues to rise. Many are waiting anxiously to see if the levy's and sand bags will hold up. Many are sand bagging as I type.
My family and I are safe because we live on the high end of Hannibal, but my heart goes out to all those that are losing their homes or their farms.
There is a look out above Hannibal, MO that is called Lovers Leap. You can see all of Hannibal from there. I took my kids up there yesterday so that we could get a closer look.

This next photo is of a portion of Hannibal that is flooded. All of this area where there is water is supposed to be land.

The whole time we were up there my kids were in awe. I tried to explain to them the best I could about the cresting of the waters and the levy holding the water in to protect our town.

Hannibal is the birth-town of Mark Twain. Therefore in the summer time it is crowded with tourists. One of the main attractions is Sawyers Creek. It has a beautiful restaurant overlooking the river, miniature golf, kiddie rides, gift shop ect. It is now flooded with water also. Look at the mailbox in the picture below!

One of the photos I got from atop Lovers Leap was beautiful. It is hard to believe that such a beautiful piece of nature could also at the same time be a force of mass destruction.

Also a girlfriend of mine e-mailed me a photo of the next town over, Quincy IL. We are about 15 minutes away from them. This is a photo of one of the main bridges there.

I would just ask that you keep all those in the path of the flood waters in your prayers tonight!

You got some great photos.
Isn't it just awful?!
We didn't live here in 93, I can't imagine how awful that one must have been compared to this.
Thanks so much for posting to All Photo Essays Here!
You got some great shots from the Leap. I didn't realize Sawyer's Creek was underwater. That's going to be a mess to clean up. Is the cave flooded, too? This will sure hurt Tom Sawyer Days this year.
