This morning I heard the unmistakeable sound of a hawk outside. Still in my nightgown, I threw on a pair of tennies, grabbed my camera and ran outside...
I practically flew! Running to the top of the ridge behind the house where I could still hear it -- I scanned all the trees but couldn't see anything. Disappointed, I started to walk back down to the house when I heard the sound again, turned around and caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye of a large bird in flight just above the treetops but, it circled very quickly and disappeared again down behind the trees...
Just then, I saw it AGAIN and, this time, it landed in the top of a tree about 35 - 40 feet away... It took some doing, even then, to locate it again with the viewfinder but I FOUND IT!!!
Here he is... I'm pretty sure he's a baby... Note the down:
Look at this noble profile!
Here's the last shot I got of him before he flew away:
As I was posting this article to Gather, Mrs. Turkey decided to take all of her children for a walk right across the driveway... Here are some of them:
I guess it's "baby time" here in Cloverdale! :o)

Great photos!
We have a lot of hawks here that live in the valley right next to my house. Sometimes when I'm out doing my errands I'll see one drifting on the currents over the river. They are so lovely.
I'm pretty sure it's a red-tail, Karen... We have a mated pair that lives nearby -- I see them often and I'm pretty sure this is one of their babies...
I'm so glad you did, Ghostly! :o)
Totally, huh, Samantha?
Thanks, everyone!
Blessings to all...
Thanks so much for posting this to

Thanks, Victoria!
You are very, very welcome, Shirley! Thank YOU! :o)
The birds in the nest on the porch actually did TWO broods this year, and the second ones are probably about ready to hatch, or just have hatched. I noticed that once the babies got bigger last time momma stayed away from the nest a lot more, and right now she's still sitting on it...
Thank YOU, Lilith, for giving Gatherers like me a forum!
BTW, there is a kitty, garden, sunset and castle frankenstein article waiting for you - whenever you take a break from that greenhouse:)
