Barbary Chaapel wrote an article This is How Love Looks yesterday and I couldn't help but agree with her thoughts. Love does start first with just a bud and as time goes by blossoms into a most beautiful flower that can just take your breath away. The peony in my garden is called Sarah Bernhardt. I chose this variety because when I was just a wee girl, Dad would say "You are as beautiful as Sarah Bernhardt to me!" Although I think Dad probably needed glasses, it still made me feel like I was the most beautiful girl in the world. Would that all fathers could give that gift to their daughters.

Love your peony and your garden is lovely. I do believe the Srah Bernhardt variety is one of my favorite, but then I love all peonies.
You make me blush...but I will take the compliment. I do believe you hit the nail on the head...hanging out with 5 and 6 year olds probably accounts for my youthful appearance!
I, too, love peonies...would that they would last all summer.

Thanks for your great comments on my article
It's a funny thing about my Dad...in the world of business and gray suits, he was a failure, I imagine people would say. He was a hard drinkin' Irish guy (though I never saw him drunk) who could weave wonderful stories, had tons of friends, loved to party, and loved his three girls without reservation. If you needed anything, you could go to Dad, and there it was. He always had time for us and only offered unconditional love.
Buy them. I bought mine several years ago...when I was at the Garden Shoppe and saw Sarah Bernhardt on the label, I knew I needed a peony...if just for the name alone. I didn't know that much about Sarah at that point...only that Dad called me that...so when I went on Wiki, I had to laugh. Imagine me being compared to her!!! Dad must of really had a sense of humor!
If I were you, I would just go explain to the woman about the peony...I am so certain she would give you the whole plant...who wouldn't. But remember, they don't like to be moved so it probably will take 2 years or so before it blooms again.
You know I never had a real garden till I moved into this new house. Who would have ever thought I had a green thumb? Black and blue knees, yes...but no green thumb.
Sarah is absolutely stunning, Samantha.
I had two very different kinds of parenting. Mom was the practical one, always busy with work and when she was home she was cooking, cleaning, washing and ironing clothes, etc. Dad was the dreamer...! How the two ever got together, I will never know...but together, they sure knew how to raise three very independent girls!
I would mow Van down if he did that to my peonys!
Did you name your lilacs after yourself or are there Miss Kim Lilacs?
Thanks so much for posting to All Photo Essays Here!
How nice to come back to you and these peonies, one of my favorite flowers.
I have a peony that looks similar but it was given to me by an old gardener and I don't know its proper name.
(I have a Miss Kim lilac!)
