Obama's Flawed Logic On Oil

I agree about his oil views. But another War Hawk does not appeal either.

It's never been about the oil for us. Obama has always been against this war because it is an unjust war. It may have been about the oil for Bush, but if it was, he failed horribly once again.

Obama believes Iraq needs to take responsibility for their own government. He also believes our finances could be better used at home. I agree with him.

As for the drilling, we need to change gears to renewable energy now. The oil will not last forever. Drilling will not satisfy the needs of this oil addicted nation.

Rosa, that's what I'm saying is the liberals wanted to blame Bush going into Iraq for the oil, which by the way, we haven't taken from them. If you recall, the Dems said the only reason we went to war was because of the oil. If they truly believed it, then we will be the world's next target for our oil if we don't get to it and become independent as far as our energy is concerned. But, the Dems and Obama are refusing to allow drilling. The logic they employed is flawed. This is why I will vote for McCain. I think his logic is still in tact, and I believe he speaks from his heart when he says he loves this country.

Barbara, why did Bush go to war in Iraq? WMD's weren't found. Or did he go for the oil, and didn't get what he wanted there either? Who knows, neither you, nor I can read Bush's mind. I don't even know that Obama accused Bush of going to war for oil. Can you reference that for me? Either way, Bush screwed up, and it was an unjust war. And McCain wants to keep it going, at our expense.

Drilling isn't going to help us out of this mess we're in. We need to seek other means of energy. There is not enough oil there for our addiction.

Well, I do not think Obama is wrong. I do think drilling here is ridiculous. If Brazil can be independent of oil in ten years, with our technology, we could do it, or should be able to in much less. If they begin to drill, it will be ten years before it helps us. I do not think the oil countries need our oil. So no, I do not think we will be a target. Maybe if we all do not need oil that may tick them off.

While we complain about gas prices, whom do you think will pay the cost of opening up the oil here, or drilling. We will. Just like when the utilities decide to ask for a hike, after a fiasco, storm, whatever, the cost will trickle down to us. It is sad that we cannot improve the world, our world, by being a leader in alternative fuels. I think of our children and so on. There is a way, and cost-wise, I just cannot see too much difference. Obama is naive and uninformed, just like Nancy Pelosi. Pelosi said that if we withdraw our troops, the other armies "will all go home." Oh, sure. That will happen, all right. Having people like these in positions of leadership is frightening.

There was enough credible evidence to support the existence of WMD. The US troops are not making war. They are trying to keep the peace while a new government is established.

If the Iraq conflict was about getting oil, our gas prices would not be over $4/gallon.

WHY is the US shipping our domestic oil to Japan when we need it here? Why are we not drilling for more of our oil while researching for alternative fuels?

Jan, there was NO credible evidence for WMDs. They made it look like there was. It was a huge fraud on the people of this nation. And you're right, our troops did not make this war, Bush and his admin made this war, and our troops are weary, overstretched and need to come home. My nephew is just doing his job, two stints in Iraq already, with no end in sight. He was suppose to be released from the military back in December, Guess what, they said no you can't get out yet. That's just BS, his time was up.

Because of the war, Hussain is dead. The country now has a government for which they can become responsible, and they will.

And here is something else to ponder. Why is the President of Iraq meeting with the President of Iran, and our own President refuses to? Could it be that Iraq WANTS Iran to help support them. If so, where does that leave Bush? We're spending all this money to build up an army, just like we did with Bin Laden years ago. You'd think we'd learn from our mistakes, but not Bush, and his buddy McCain. Just like spending all that money to train the Pakistani Army, and STILL we don't have Bin Laden. Go figure. We're being played big time. Bush is just blind as a bat.

Man, liberals just don't learn. Don't you know that either way - if we drill or get alternative fuels - that we - the American people - will have to foot the bill through taxes? We can buy at least two years at the current consumption rate by drilling off shore and on our soil. We can take that two years to push for alternative sources, like wind, solar, nuclear, coal, etc. Those sources cost money - like infrastructure - and they don't just pop up overnight. Guess who will be footing the bill? Yeah, you and me - probably through taxes and subsidies through the government. However, that would mean that the government (read Democrats - and there are some onboard) get off their duffs, stop blaming Bush and the Republican party and and vote this bi-partisan. Duh - do they want to make the American people madder?

Buy two years? I don't know how you figure that when they are telling us it will take ten years to produce, if drill right now. Plus the environmental issues at stake.

As for footing the bill, it might help if we didn't keep sending money to Iraq, who, by the way, is really cashing in on our oil addiction right now.

From my memory, and I think it's pretty darn good, the Dems were crying that we went to war for the oil in Iraq. Bush said it was to find the WMD's that he was told were there by our intelligence and it was logical for Hussein to have them since he used them on his own people. If Hussein had been more open to the world he probably would still be around today, but he wasn't. He thumbed his nose at the free world. So, if the war was about oil as they all accused Bush that it was, that makes us the target of the Eastern world if we are the last bastion of oil reserves. That's logical, too. But, it was flawed from the beginning with the accusations of why we went to war in the first place. The libs have been exposed.

The Dems can mean anyone, I'm asking you specifically about Obama, since that is who is this article is about. I'm not a Dem, by the way, I am a disgruntled Republican.

The war is NOT about oil, the war is about religion. Bin Laden said it was. The War on Terror is about religious beliefs. Saddam didn't even fit into this war, and Bush called him a part of the so-called axis of evil. Bush said he was housing Bin Laden's thugs, which also was not true. And I believe is why Colon Powell resigned because he knew, along with Scott McCellon and others, that this war was made up by the Bush admin.

I have heard it was for oil too Barbara... What gets to me, with Hilly and Kerry, both Dems is that they heard the same intelligence that Bush heard,,, Hillys own hubby, Billy boy along with Al Gore the bore, all said, that Saddam had the weapons...
I also, and for the life of me, cannot figure out why, this wasnt in the news more,, but anyway, one of Saddams generals( I think he was a gen. but he was high up there) wrote a book and was on tv, and said, that he knew that Saddam had wmd's , this man was in the Baath' party , flew the plane and dumped them into the ocean... The rest of the wmd's went to Syria through Damascus... He even told what color the containers were that held them...
If we wouldnt of went into Iraq, the torture , killing, raping would of continuted... For whatever reason we went there... I think it was necessary to help these people to have freedoms and rid them of a horrible, horrible, monster and his crazy sons...
If we hadnt of went into Iraq, the Food for Oil Scandal would not of been exposed... We have paid a high cost for offering this country freedom, but you cant have a war without loss of lives.... Its unfortunate but true... These young men and woman gave the most that they could give.. They laid down there lives for someone they didnt even know... This is why, we need to finish the job... we are there now, lets take the restraints off of our troops and let them do what they came there to do....

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I for one, do not go along with the Dems and Obama who said this war was about oil. After we went in to Iraq and came out empty handed on the WMD's, that was the liberal mantra in Washington. I don't have to cite any source on this, it was on the nightly news, quite regularly, if not every night. Everyone who was paying attention at the time will remember it also.

I am by no means a supporter of Obama, or the democrat party, but guess what" Republicans either.
That being said, I want to, not invite, nor ask, but challenge you to watch this video from beginning to end. First of all, we have plenty of oil that has already been drilled. It is capped off and sitting dormant in pipelines. Why? The video explains why. To help you understand part of it that many don't seem to catch onto, the video explains deals made years ago, whereas oil rich countries agreed to buy our national debt, as mortgage brokers frequently buy newly made, and old mortgage notes. In exchange our underhanded leaders from both parties, underhandedly agreed in the deal that the US would not utilize those capped supplies, or other undrilled supplies. It is peculiar, but to note, in the video it is pointed out that three oil rich countries continuously refused to sign the deals. Eventually, one of those country's leader did sign. Yasser Arafat. And what were the other two oil rich countries that have contiuned to this day to refuse to sign? None other than Iran and Iraq's Saddamn Hussein, as well as current leaders. Saddam was a marked man. That is the facts. And the "Antichrist" is on his march. And his False Prophet carries the torch. Those oil rich countries own America. And after centuries passed, ones of them still have a long held grudge against the Jews and the Gentiles.

Barbara, if you are going to accuse one person in particular, you need to produce the quote and reference for this statement by Obama. Otherwise you are just blowing in the wind.

I don't know who is right anymore. It is all a big mess. We need to drill off shore or other countries will do so. We have great saftey records they do not. It is our oil not theirs.

I think everyone has missed the total point of this completely. The point of this whole thing is this. If the Dems refuse to open up our resources to drill for OUR oil on OUR soil, then we will become a target for the rogue nations in the world when the oil does finally run out. Why would the Dems want to save this oil anyway, when we have over a hundred year's worth of oil under OUR soil and waters. And, I should impress upon you, Obama is in bed with the Dems on the hill!!! What more do you want? It's flawed logic on the part of the Dems and Obama.

I went to watch that video that was mentioned in the above comments, and according to it the other big oil nations already own us and it's just a matter of time before our nation falls. So, who really knows how much oil is in the ground, save the oil men, of which Bush & Comapany is a part, so too must they be a part of the problem. I just watched the movie titled Idiocracy. I think we're getting close to it with some of the comments I have gotten. Scary.

I don't understand a lot of what Obama says, it is kind of scary that so many people want to vote for someone who rejects our flag and anthem. The was was not started because of oil. It was started because we were attacked, and we begged them to let us see their warehouses to make sure that they did not have weapons of mass destruction, we warned them, we gave them deadlines, we asked them nicely, and they refused to let us see. Rae, Iraq didn't attack us, so the war is not about that. WMD's were an excuse to go invade, and the UN was not in agreement with the US doing so. The world thought was that Saddam might be trying to go nuclear, but there was no evidence that he had the ability. If the US government thought you had illegal weapons in your home, but had no proof, would it be okay for them to bomb your home if you refused to let them in????? Thought not.

Rosa, I really hate to disagree with you, but Hussein did thumb his nose at the world and us before we went there to take him out of power. And, he was a possible threat to us by way of giving the terrorists who were taking refuge in that nation weapons to harm us here on our soil.

And, Mike is correct in what he's saying. It's on the news. They have chosen those companies to do the no-bid contracts, I have seen that for sure on the news. And, yes, Hussein did boot us out of the oil fields over 25 years ago.

Oh, one more thing, the ATF did find a group of men in the south, who had a cache of weapons ready for some sort of impending battle with who knows who, and they destroyed them last week. The militia, as they called themselves, are now in prison.

Barbara - I'm with you!! We are doomed to a liberal president for the next term. I've learned not to argue with liberals or conservatives. It is almost impossible to change either one or to speak logic to either one. My often held back question is " Do you think government is the best or even a mediocre supplier of goods and services?" If they think they cannot answer with yes. When they say no. You ask why they want have more of it.

If oil is the reason many countries go to war, then it would be logical to think the U.S. would be the target in the future if we are the last ones to have oil resources. Obama is just one of the Democrats who would block drilling off of our own shores not already in production. It's just flawed logic in my opinion. The dems are wrong. Period.

Some may be surprised to learn that almost 50% of U.S. crude oil and petroleum products imports came from the Western Hemisphere (North, South, and Central America and the Caribbean including U.S. territories) during 2006. We imported only 16 of our crude oil and petroleum products from the Persian Gulf countries of Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates. During 2006, our five biggest suppliers of crude oil and petroleum products were:

It doesn't matter where our oil comes from. OPEC decisions have had substantial influence on international oil prices. We went to war with Iraq, to gain control of their oil then we could have given OPEC a run for their money and have control over the cost of oil. By having the majority of oil.

The United States Strategic Petroleum Reserve As of July 15, 2008, the current inventory was 706.2 million barrels of crude oil. Supply and demand are what effects oil prices. Consequently, if we are going to drill and produce more oil than we already do. That crude will take 20 years to make it to the market. Therefore, we need relief now, and that could be routinely accomplished by using oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

So Nanina, you think it would take twenty years to get our oil? Even the dems who are blocking the ban on offshore drilling are hyping it to be ten years. But, with the infrastructure already in place on the Gulf Coast, it would be no more than six years at the longest and 1 1/2 to 2 years minimum. If we deplete our Strategic Pertoleum Preserve, and we still have the problem of high gas prices, then what? Are we going to run our cars on air? Doubt it. : )
