Could You Pick a Spouse From Twelve People?

I wish I could just find 12 people to pick from. I wouldn't go on a show like this in the first place because I'd want to marry for love. It's not something you can turn on and off. It takes time and you have to really get to know someone. As I posted today, I'm going through trying to find someone myself and am debating on if it should be a man (as I'm gay) or should I revert back to being heterosexual and find a woman to be with. Love and marriage isn't as simple as just being on a 'game show'.

I never watch those shows. I don't think I could personally do it.

I think those shows are just for entertainment. Marriage is serious and I would not want to pick someone who entered a pool to be on a TV show to win a contest and the prize was marriage.

I am pretty sure that none of the relationships last. Most don't even make it to the wedding, do they? It's stupid and it is for entertainment, not love.

I do watch them sometimes. I've only watched the Farmer show once or twice, but I've been watching the Bachelorette and I do sometimes watch the Bachelor..I think it is possible, obviously it is since there have been a few of the couples who have stayed together and either gotten married or are still together dating or living together. The majority of those who find someone on these shows though don't end up staying together. I'm sure it would depend on their screening process and I'm sure they get tons of applicants and they match them to qualities the person says they're looking for.. I don't think it's entirely that random. In the case of the Bachelorette, I think it's more likely that they will work out.. since the women on that show are usually Bachelor show rejects who didn't get picked, so the guys who are applying already have gotten a chance to watch her on the first show and learn a lot about her, and see if they think they would mesh and are already attracted to her.. even though she's going in kinda blind. I would never choose to find someone that way..but it could be a great way to find someone if you think about it. You get a room full of guys or girls who all are attracted to you.. you get to choose the hottest or the ones you spark with most to stay, and then you get to date them all at the same time.. with them competing to win your love..and weed them out one by one until you find the one you think you could be most happy with.. no rule says you have to get married at the end even if you give them a ring.. beats hanging out in bars and dating trolls you meet online ..and they take you to places like Paris and Hawaii and put you up in these gorgeous places LOL

Who knows who/what you're missing while you're concentrating on those 12?

I have a daughter that likes to watch the bachelor. Whenever we are around a young woman a few years older than her I ask, "Would you go out with a guy if you knew he was going out with 6 or 8 other girls at the same time?"

I have yet to get a yes answer!

I had a lot of respect for that guy last year who got down to the final two or one and couldn't go through with it. Now that's reality!

Absolutely not. And I can't believe they only see these people for about a month and never alone, mind you, before getting married. Ick.

I don't think so because the guy kisses all those other women. I'd have a problem with seeing that.

I could never do it. I have to admit that the farmer's wife has been pretty fun to watch though....but only because there has been nothing else on.

Remember Darva Conger? It's the reason I don't watch those shows. What a waste of valuable air time!

I don't watch those shows either...I think there are only 2 couples that are still together, and only one of them are married...i'm just wanting to find one who wants to marry me!

I do not watch them much either. I watched the first season of the bachelor a long time ago. Even if it does not work out- They have fun getting to know each other. Probably like anything- they would have to work on the marriage.

I refuse to watch these. I think the idea is nuts, maybe it would work for some. I guess I am old fashioned and romantic!

My mom loves watching the Bachelor though. She is too funny!

I admit I watch those shows with friends. Mostly just for laughs, but I agree, it's nearly impossible to pick an actual spouse from those shows. However, most of the contestants are shallow and one dimensional anyways. An everyday normal person would have a lot more trouble on a show like that. As for the likelihood of the people on these shows staying married, what are the chances anyone will stay married? I also have to agree with Jasper W. from above, the divorce rating keeps going up, so maybe the show is just a reflection of our society's ever growing trend of marital dysfunction.
