A Fictional Small Town Newspaper
Granny C.G.'s GOOD NEWS
The whole town of Inner Springs, it seems, has been breathlessly awaiting this reporter's article on the Portobello Children's magic show, which was scheduled to have been performed last Saturday at the Holy Grill Cafe after regular restaurant hours. There was a sudden onset of sniffles among the magicians, and the show had to be postponed. It will be performed this coming Saturday evening at 6 p.m.
There's a new item on the H.G. menu, by the way: "Oats For Little Goats [Kids]," which is very popular. Karen and Rich Portobello soak whole oats in a mix of water and buttermilk overnight, then cook them up into a lovely munchy porridge. I can personally guarantee the ability of this dish to satisfy one's hunger for many hours. And - hallelujah! - it is suitable for old goats, too. I have to hand it to Rich and Karen for adding this to their lunch menu. They seem to understand that some of us old creakers don't get around to eating breakfast until lunch time - or that some folks will want to order a portion as take-home for a healthy snack or next day's breakfast. By the way, there's no styrofoam or paper at the Holy Grill. Customers can bring their own carry-out containers or borrow from the Holy Grill; and they can bring their own cloth napkins or use the standard Holy Grill wash cloths-for-napkins plan - both at a slight extra charge.
OATS FOR LITTLE GOATS Recipe (Family size):
Soak 1 Cup whole oats overnight in 2 Cups water + some buttermilk or yoghurt if desired.
Next morning add 1 1/2 cups more water and cook for as long as it takes, which might be 45 minutes-1 hour if you're cooking it in a covered pot on low heat while doing other things.
This old goat likes to take home a portion and refrigerate it for the next day. To reheat it, I use a little coconut oil instead of water, adding raisins, cinnamon, and some flax bran. It stays my hunger for many hours, and it's so good for body and soul!

Looking forward to that Magic Show, hope the sniffles have flown the coop.
The cinnamon and raisins do sweeten it up - no need for sugar.
Glad you can swim, miz j - good for the knee, all that floating.
