Yeah, so I'm compromising.
I blogged camp life my first year working here....sorta. I kept up with it a bit, but my readers were mainly from a site I participated in that was the complete opposite of camp-type stuff, so it was weird trying to write it for them.
Last year I started up a blog just for camp, but gave up after a couple weeks. I had an established readership for my main site, but they visited for different reasons. I was also trying to somewhat maintain writing there and camp turned crazy within a couple weeks, leaving me with no time, energy, or motivation to really tell stories.
I can't give details about location or post pictures of any of the campers for security purposes. I do have fun stories to tell, though, so I was trying to figure out what to do. I had several people ask me if I was blogging it again and I really hadn't planned on it because of the previous failures. People are wanting to read about some of it, though, and I really, really want to record a few stories before I get old and forget all of the stuff that ever happened.
So I think I'm going to do it here. I already introduced Quirky readers to Gather, so they know I'm here. Camp stuff is too personal for my blog, though, and I think it'll be okay to do here. I may lose a few "friends" who are dead set against seeing my occasional stories show up in their feeds....or those who keep track of every comment they receive on their content and suddenly realize that I'm not around enough to comment much (but I'm keeping all the email notifications of you guys commenting on my stuff, so you're certainly not being forgotten....and I'll catch up on all your stuff when I'm free again).
I think this is going to be the best way for me to try to keep up with it, though. I don't have to think about promoting a blog that is temporary or telling stories that aren't quirky enough for my crazy readers. I know talking about personal things is pretty typical here, so I don't think my stuff is going to be out of the ordinary too much. And besides, it'll be fun, right? I'll be able to share some of the silly stuff that happens here and record my stories about camp at the same time.....all while you guys get to peek in on what I'm doing.
I just went and created Quirky Camp group here, too. It's mainly for my own purposes of keeping them all together so I don't have to hunt them down later, but you're welcome to join if you're one of those people who actually goes into groups to read things.
