It's amazing how much gets done around here when Ross has able bodied and willing helpers. On top of working a full day at the store, even.
The dock was pretty much useless the way it was. We had a long stretch over what used to be wet, but now is mostly dry

And the floating dock was SO not floating. It got shoved up onto the point by ice/wind this winter... knocked down the boat winch in the process...which sucks, cuz that was where the kingfisher used to hang out every evening.

On Friday, Ruth & Tim came up for a couple of hours to get a start on the dock. I watched the boys while they worked. They got the floating raft back out to where it could float. And started moving the other pieces out into the water as well.

Then it was time for Pappy to head to work.

I don't think Colton is enjoying Hunter's lesson at this point.

Colton found a great ~toy~ to chew on ...Ross wasn't so thrilled with the teeth marks :)

Friday evening, I picked up Tamara and Xander, who came for the weekend - also to help with the dock.
They got a lot done.

They spent a LOT of time in the water.

Even after Ross went to work, they were out there mixing cement to make anchors and so on.

And when they came in from the lake, they did other chores too.... many of them without even being asked.
Seems like Alex, in particular, just doesn't ~get~ the whole relaxing at the cottage thing.
He hung birdhouses (with Tamara's supervision - or not)

Turn around a little while later, and the lawn mower was going.

There was a loose brick ... he couldn't stand it. Cleaned the deck too. And the dog hair inside - and off of the dog, too.

Tamara is somewhat better at the relaxing at the cottage thing... but even she did a heck of a lot of work during this visit... helping the boy, running for tools or whatever, and making dinner. The ribs were awesome!

We are not used to having such helpful, hardworking company.

If only all guests were so helpful! We'd have company every weekend :)

It looks like they were feed well after a hard days work to.
Good Job.
Tamara you're a wonderful daughter.
and you did do pretty much all the cooking 'cept breakfast
and besides, if it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have had him around to help either
Glad to see how much work got done and appreciate that Tamara & Xander would do it willingly.
Hope you got some time to relax even if it was after you had taken them home. (And I had a nice visit with Mandy and your other daughter this weekend.)
and besides I have buttons that need sewing on, and jackets that need dewrinkling
Glad you had such great help, though. I loved the photo essay!
and you need to keep Alex....or rather Tamara does.
Great essay, flit. I had to grin at the brick episode.
...and he doesn't do boats? LOL
Thanks so much for posting to All Photo Essays Here!
