Saturday Night Live is a pretty far out, anything goes show but there are a few things that will get you kicked out the door. How big of an ass do you have to be to get banned from the show for life? These 10 goofballs should know.

10 People Banned From Saturday Night Live

Chevy Chase - Banned for verbally abusing the cast members and writers.

Elvis Costello - Played a song that Lorne Michaels asked him not to play.

Adrien Brody - Dressed up in dreadlocks and assumed a fake Rastafarian accent to introduce Sean Paul AND called him the wrong name AND it wasn't even funny.

Sinead O'Connor - Used the show as a forum for political views by tearing up a picture of the Pope on stage.

Charles Grodin - Skipped rehearsal and when he arrived for the show he was stinking drunk.

Martin Lawrence - Gave a really, really, really vulgar monologue.

Steven Seagal - Continually annoyed cast members during rehearsal and the show.

Andy Kaufman - Just wasn't funny enough according to a poll of the audience.

Milton Berle - Tried to upstage the cast and exposed himself to cast members backstage.

DJ Muggs from Cypress Hill - Lit up a joint on the air.

Hmmm...never will forget the night Sinead O'Connor did that. I was appalled - I'm Catholic.
Yeah, I saw that one too. She might have gotten away with it if it was part of a skit, but she turned the event into a political protest and that was very unfunny. I understand she was warned not to do anything like that on the show.
I would ban Steven Seagal from ANYTHING purely on principal.

Sinead O'Conner proved to be far more correct than even she meant to be when she did that. It makes her a genius.

The child abuse in the Catholic Church was far worse than even she knew at the time.

Charles Grodin is also banned from my house :) That is, IF he ever showed up, I would run him off with the hose. Andy Kaufman was one weird dude. Remember when he started wrestling women? Wow, I bet that was gaggy to see Milton Berle wagging his weinie around backstage. Time for the home, Gramps.

Wow. I wasn't aware there were actually people banned from the show, but the list of names is enough, even without the explanations. This was interesting. Thanks.
Elizabeth, yeah something bad happened with Chevy. He was originally only a writer but then he started taking bits as well. Then things kind of blew up between him, the old crew and the new producers. Remember his pathetic talk show? He was horrible. Even good buddy Goldy Hawn couldn't save it. It was actually painful to watch.

Most of them I can see, but Elvis Costello? What the heck did he sing?

Sinead, I agree with the point she made. I was raised a Catholic and I still check off the box when filling out papers, but there are many things which the Church has done that infuriate me. I still have a beef about not being able to serve as "alterboy!" (ps: my mother would be furious with Sinead, so it's a mixed family thing.)

De the only one I knew of was andy kaufman....and he is dead so I doubt whether its an issue anymore.

I would have thought that SNL would be more progressive and open minded....hmmm.

That is wild and is information that I never knew. Funny thing is, if you look a the personalities and think about other things that have been said about these very people, all of the reasons are very easy to believe.
OMG, that's very true. I can't imagine having to work with Steven Seagal. Everything I read about him unintentionally points to him being an egotistical jerk. *shudder*

As a catholic I was offended by the ban against Sinead O'Conner... Lorne Michaels himself was not bothered by O'Conner's statement against child abuse..... The rehearsal featured a "beautiful moment against child abuse" -- but O'Conner felt this ineffective and opted for a stronger statement.... It is OFFENSIVE that goodie two shoes Americans -- who come from goodie two shoes homes --- do not respect that MILLIONS of American children are beaten every single day -- and there is NOTHING 'beautiful' about that.... These are 'fake' Americans who are upset at an Irish singer -- and think adults who rape and beat children are cool..
