Loving's Touch

Eyes closed
Shiver of cold
Valiant heart is beating.

Soothing hands
Familiar scent
Loving voice is speaking.

Warm breeze
Tickles the nose
Open gate is waiting.

Golden sun
Fragrant grass
Butterflies are dancing.

Sparkling eyes
Lolling tongues
Flash of tumbling bodies.

Joyous yips
Wagging tails
Rolling ball so inviting.

Twitching tail
Jerking paws
Brave new spirit is leaping.

Rough and tumble
Happy growls
Shimmering pack is leaving.

Sighing wind
Setting sun
Happy echoes receding.

Stryker's life was far, far too short, but he touched so many hearts in that brief time. His spirit will live with us all. This is a beautiful tribute to him Sia. Peace to you.

This is so moving, because it is joyous and sad, exhilarating and heart-rending. You captured the wonder of puppy-hood, and thus it's a fitting tribute to a "valiant heart."

I rarely write poetry anymore Beaker. Moments of great emotion will move me. something about a poem that covers it all without copious words. Catches the flash of emotions.

I'm glad you were able to see and feel both sides. That was my intent. I'm still playing with the title. This is what you might call a working title.

Bittersweet is this poem. A blessing to know, a heartbreak to lose. Sia I have shivers and goosebumps just reading it. The lyrical quality to each verse as it leads into the next is brilliant. Beautifully sweet and tenderly joyous with the regret of the ending.

Sarah, my nickname initially came from my brother's inability to say my given name, Sylvia. Started out more along the lines of Sy-ee--ah. Then evolved to what it is today, Sia (See-ah) It's special to me. So special that I legally incorporated it into my middle name, with different spelling, but same pronunciation. Deliecia--think Spanish. My original middle name was Deleice.

This is very touching. Reminds me of my sweet dalmation puppy I got from the pound that died of parvo. Very sad yet a beautiful tribute!

Parvo is such a horrible disease and yet so preventable. Just the young are so much more vulnerable even with some vacs. Stryker was special.

The two out of the litter that did survive are healthy and hale and doing very well.

A year ago we lost a beautiful 3 year old boxer named Buddy to kidney failure - he was one of the most loving creatures I've ever been privileged to know and his absence is still keenly felt, especially around this anniversary - your poem brought me to tears and yet gave me comfort. Thanks for that.

Thank you Nan. He was a very special pup. He fought so hard to survive. He was my 'oven baby'. I still can't look the the pictures of pups in this litter I lost to parvo without tears...
