I knew SOMETHING wasn't right.

It had been two years since I 'doo dah'd' my system here... (backup, format, reinstall os, DOO DAH!)..  and I knew SOMETHING wasn't right.

I had no idea.

We used to use spysweeper and AVG. Now we dont use either. We just use HP Total care advisory and Norton 360. Very good programs.

I have no idea, my husband does all that crap. I just know that it takes time no matter what you use.

I myself am an old Norton fan....still use norton corporate version ...even tho' it's at home....i run a home business.

it does me good.

but i still run spybot search and destroy to find extra spyware...and avg's rootkit detector.

Oh and i have firewalls, hardware in router and softare.

the only ones that slip through are when something is actually clicked upon...nothing sneaks up on me tho'

That is why i use more than one antivirus program..It always seems on program is always more advance at catchingthan others. But when we start trusting just that one. Another one takes the lead.

Avast was what let all those thru... I used an older copy of Nortons to clean it up out of the BACKUP after I reformatted the system, working MUCH better now.

Trying AVG till I get a new copy of Nortons.

I'm with Gil. I use the professional version of Norton at home, but a few other spyware programs. I haven't had any problems yet, but they come up with viruses faster than we cant think about it.

I have a teenager who is quite masterful on the computer and has my anti-virus software active and working well. Couldn't tell you what it is, but hey.....if it works, why mess with it?

I get Mac free from my ISP.... it is such a HOG even their OWN SUPPORT folks warn off users.

I have not been a huge fan \reader of Wikipedia, but I do occasionally find articles of interest.

Spyware is software installed without your knowledge, and can be a very malicious program. The worst ones can record your keystrokes, forward info off your "private" emails. and oh so much more -

And ....before I forget - SOME programs that pop-up ads to say YOU HAVE A SPYWARE INFECTION and CLICK Here to protect yourself from spyware are <<GASP!>> actually spyware themselves.

There is no single anti-virus, software or hardware firewall, spy- and malware remover, rootkit detector\removal tool that can address all threats.

They change so fast and are out there...the best way to protect yourself is to learn about them, keep whatever you have up to date....

I deal with these kinds of things on a regular basis at work - and we have several layers of detection BEFORE anything hits the PC's on our desk....but we still use software on each PC to further prevent issues.

I have Mcaffee. It drives me crazy though. that and my aol have taken over my computer and block things I want to see. Sometimes I can't get around it even to play the aol games or to take surveys for cash.

Shelbia...talk about taking over your computer...you should have Vista! It is a pain plus you have to deal with the Firewalls, virus ware and defenders!!!
