I'm not a hotel snob. In fact I tend to stay at family style places that feature free breakfast and decent accommodations. But decent is decent, and the room we had last nightv didn't fit the bill....at all!
We're staying in Florence, Kentucky, just a few mils outside Cincinnati. It's less expensive, less insane, and not a bad drive at all into the city. I like Choice Hotels and have always had great luck with them....especially Clarion. They seem to cater to business people, and since I'm combining business with pleasure this weekend, that fits the bill for me.
Last night's room was atrocious. It was supposed to be a suite. It wasn't. It was supposed to have a fridge and microwave. It didn't. It was supposed to have a nicely appointed business area within the room/suite. It didn't.
What it DID have, however, was the subtle scent of eau de urine wafting throughout the room. No matter where I set my laptop and attempted to work, the smell of urine drove me elsewhere. It DID have a disgustingly stained bathtub with black flecks that traveled up from the drain to gently caress my feet as I showered. And it DID have a dirty toilet with flakes of rust all over the back of the seat. Oh yes, and it DID have an AC that sounded like a freight train coming through as it ran through its cooling cycle.......every fifteen minutes, all night long.
I'm not a complainer, but I do believe in getting what you pay for. Two conversations with desk clerks got me nowhere last night, so I spoke with a manager this morning. He was very courteous and listened to my complaints. We switched rooms a couple of hours back and the difference is like night and day. And while we still don't have our suite, we do have the other amenities the hotel advertised. And our room for last night has been comped.
It pays to bring things to a manager's attention in a polite but direct way.....at least it did this time. Hopefully we will have a much more peaceful night's sleep tonight!

We had a storm earlier that was ugly. It stopped now the sun is out again. So maybe that is what you got now.
Is the game at 7?
It isn't easy for me to complain either - part of me wanted to encourage you to have said something before enduring a long night, but I know I'd have had trouble doing that, too.
I'm just glad it's been addressed and hopefully the rest of your trip will be stellar!
Glad you got a better room. Sounds like the trip is fun so far even without the hotel problem.
I know the last time I was in a hotel it was the night before hip replacement surgery. (Had to go to a different city to have it done in less than 2 years time.) They gave us a room that had a high step between the entry/bathroom area and the beds. Let me kids see the desk clerk and got that changed quickly.
We have rain so am I suppose to ask for it to come here? Sorry, no thanks.
I would have been transported back in time. Plus, if I stayed in that hotel room for even an hour, I'd have taken a good shower once I got in the new room, washed my hair and put my old clothes in a washing machine. Ugh! Glad you got a better room :)
