Grandpa Joe's favorite possession
his filly "Goldie" a beautiful palomino horse
sired by Roy Rogers' famous "Trigger"
Goldie's dam (or mother) a 13 year old plow mare
a chestnut colored pure arab
it all began when grandpa decided
the old plow horse had never been bred
should have a baby
he searched and searched for a suitable mate
finally decided the offspring must be a golden palomino
the most famous palomino in the world
of course was Trigger who had been in some 40 movies
Grandpa got busy found out how to contact
Rogers' Apple Valley California ranch
with his meager savings of $1500
he made a deal for Trigger to be
the father of the of any prospective offspring
arrangements were made
time and date set
and off we went in Grandpa's old
Plymouth coupe towing the mare
in an old one horse sized trailer
Grandpa and I had a great ride
some 150 miles taking until after noon
one fine June day
