If I see another dreamcatcher, I'm going to kvork.
However, Dreamcatcher, the movie, is a whole different issue.
Dreamcatcher was the first novel Stephen King worked on after he was struck on a country road while out walking and he brings that experience into this story with one of his characters who is struck by a vehicle and nearly killed.
It makes for a great monster movie with a fine winter settling and a group of terrific characters...grown childhood friends Jonesy, Henry, Pete, and Beaver. The guys share a friendship with Duddits, a kid with Down's syndrome they rescue in what even they realize is the best thing they ever did with their lives.
Dreamcatcher becomes a metaphor for the childhood friends and their relationship as they confront an alien invasion while gathered at a hunting cabin in the Maine woods for a vacation together.
The actors are excellent, the story line is fast-paced and original. The aliens are shape-shifters who can appear as the Close Encounters-type bald-headed guys. In actuaiity, they are fast, ruthless killers driven by a need to reproduce, cause a red mossy infection in animals and humans, and have a parisitic potential. The villain was a general played by Morgan Freeman who carries a pistol given to him by John Wayne.
DVD extras include an interview with Stephen King discussing his story goals.
