The last couple of weeks, I have found that watermelon is great for many things including keeping us cool this summer. Our store has had huge watermelons on sale for $4.99-5.99.
There is nothing better than sliced up and chilled watermelon on a hot summer day.

We make watermelon ice, by putting it in the blender and pouring it into empty yogurt cups. The ideal way to do it, would be to put in popcycle sticks, or to pour it in those plastic "make your own" popcylce containers neither of which we have.

In the evening we top our salad with chilled watermelon pieces.

Below you see our second variation of water melon ice (the one with the stick). We cut up thin slices of watermelon, pour it in the cup and in addition with a little bit of watermelon juice, we also add a tiny bit of mango juice. You can add whichever juice you like.

Finally, the boys have planted some seeds. This one I think (although I'm not 100% sure) is a watermelon growing.

Do you have any additional ideas for the use of watermelon on a hot summer day?
How do you keep cool?

Barbara, you are right chilled water is so much easier to drink. We put our bottles in the freezer, this way we drink cool water all day, when we are out.
Marianne, I will admit that watermelon chili does not sound tempting.
Sandy, you're right I have been wondering about that one.
Sheila, I'm sure she will love it.
Thanks Chris.
We love to eat watermelon in the summer~
We also like to just eat watermelon out of the rind.... we take spoons to it and sit on the counter and eat watermelon. :)
Now, for a more adult treat, we'll sometimes soak the watermelon over night in a mix of watermelon schnappes and rum. ;)
Heather, I also cut it up and put it in containers. It disappears so fast this way:)
Thank you for stopping by Abby. I think we will have to try your icy crystal method....it sounds like something my sons would love, and when it comes from a pro like you, I'm sure it will become a success.
