Doug S., it's completely up to the poet, whether you express feelings, emotions, secrets, inner desires, etc. With many poems it's really hard to get away from emotions or feelings. In some of my poetry I just can't escape feelings -- that is the reason for the poem, after all, in may kinds of poems!
