Question About Where To Submit Content for Publication

I've been writing for a while now and I thought that maybe it's almost time to get my stuff out there. I'm not talking about book publishing (not only have I not finished a manuscript yet, but none of my work would be even close to worthy of publication). What I mean, is possible magazines and other similar publications for work like it.

I'm not necessarily talking about paying gigs either, of course. My main goal is to just try to get my stuff out there, first, and I certainly don't expect monetary compensation at this stage of the game. Just any places (not online) that would be free to send in content in the hopes of publication.

If anyone has any tips about such, I would greatly appreciate it!

You could try the Predators and Editors website, they have a list of publications in their magazine section. Also pick up the latest copy of Writer's Market or a similar book; they list publications.

Look in Writers Digest Magazine and Writers Market for magazines and places to place your stuff.

Why not on line? I found some neat places on line for short stuff. www.helium.com is one

Naomi: I dunno, I've never trusted online places for some reason (even though I do post some small things on Gather). I might give helium a try, though.

I subscribe to Poets&Writers--each issue contains a substantial list of magazines with statements about what kind of stuff they are looking for.
