Washington, DC-Paralyzed Veterans of America (Paralyzed Veterans) thanks the many supporters who made its first Golf Open an unqualified success. The nearly 150 golfers who spent the day on the course raised close to $250,000 to help veterans with disabilities make the transition to the world of work.
All of the Golf Open's proceeds will go directly to support the new Paralyzed Veterans of America Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling Center in San Antonio. This Center will help equip disabled veterans with the tools they need to reenter the job market following life-altering injuries, while matching them with interested businesses and organizations that have available positions. A dedicated Paralyzed Veterans' vocational counselor will ensure that each veteran receives the appropriate intensive case management to fully meet his or her career needs. Paralyzed Veterans has opened two existing Centers, in Richmond, VA, and St. Paul-Minneapolis, MN.
Played June 2 at Belle Haven Country Club near the nation's capital, the tournament brought together business executives and retired military leaders with paralyzed veterans who are golfing enthusiasts. A special golfing chair enabled paralyzed golfers to fully take part.
Event underwriting sponsor Agility Defense & Government Services announced that it will sponsor the Paralyzed Veterans Golf Open again next year. Agility, along with 30 other corporate sponsors, helped to raise the funds that will make the newest Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling Center in San Antonio, a job training resource for veterans with disabilities.
