Sitting around the campfire is a favorite summertime & fall activity we like to do. we have made so many thing on campfires that were the same-o that me,my family & friends got in a huge disscussion on what people have put in thier fire...
We have cooked corn on the cob, hotdogs, smores, you know the typical stuff, then the topic got kind of interesting ...we came up with some neat suggestions to add to a fire.
Throw a cored apple filled with butter cinnamon, light sugar wrap in tin foil, place in hot coals.
Butternut squash with the top cord removed fill with butter brown sugar & cinn, place upright.
Wrap a sweet potato, regular potato in foil place in hot coals to cook..
We have tried different chocolates to our smores and even spread peanut butter on our graham cracker to give it a good effect..
Interesting things to do around the campfire, cooking over a campfire is second nature to some people..what have "you had" or" heard of to cook in a small campfire"....
Has anyone ever made campfire doughnuts..??? I remember having these at camp for a church get-together and didn't get the recipe. I know we sqished the dough onto a stick that looked like a hotdog cooked it slow, brushed it with hot butter sprinkled a mix of cinnamon & sugar on it..
Anyone have the recipe for such a thing..???
~~What would you wrap up in foil to cook in the fire..?? or throw on a stick to cook..??~~

spiderdog anyone ????
have you ever made these ??

Hobo dinners in foil...just cut all the vegetables (taters, onions, peppers, carrots) the same size, add beans or meat and turn frequently
Make a homemade rotisserie from a few green sticks
No frying
We never do anything really fancy 'round the fire other than s'mores. Our family is too busy throwing stuff (like furniture) on the fire to watch it burn. Not conducive to cooking.
Sounds like you had great fun!
The tough part is the oil: get oil extremely hot in a Dutch oven. It needs to cook the donuts quickly without getting them oil-drenched; that means it's dangerous to children, and the oil could catch fire.
Quick-cook the donuts, and then toss them into a paper bag filled with cinnamon & sugar, shake them around, and serve them up when they're well-coated.
This recipe requires no frying, It was a dough some one made up that tasted pretty
good, roast it like a marshmellow,Only it looked like a hotdog, and when you cook it it
puffs out like a long doughnut, brush melted butter, or rub with butter stick and
sprinkle with a salt shaker filled with cinn. & sugar...
I thought some one would of heard of these... :))
Hobbo dinners sound neat...
in a fire.....With no pots or pans just plain god old tin foil and a idea, even if you have
never tried it.. experamenting with new ideas....
My son even tried roasted cheese puffs, very crunchy..
maybe a little butter. very simple substitute pie. you can even buy a can of pie filling.
try bbqing a side of pork for about 13 hours. stay up all night and add coals and baste with vinegar and spices. the next day you just eat and fall asleep. I use the racks from an old oven and a piece of old barn roofing for the cover to keep the heat in.
Any vegetable in foil.
Skewer a sliced zucchini..add olive oil and salt. hold over coals until brown. yum.
You could do the same with any squash.
Roast a head of garlic in foil. Serve with the tater you roast in foil.
Buy some of those tiny game hens or make friends with a dove hunter.
I can only say that when it comes to "things on a stick" marshmallows are#1 comfort food for me...
mostof my camp food is in dutch ovens and other cast iron..
love your ideas, and your spidy hot dogs....
Unfortunately I don't have the donut recipe to share.
