I was pleasantly surprised. While I probably missed many of the obscure references that die-hard fans certainly will enjoy discussing, you don't need to have any in-depth knowledge of the television series to follow the movie.
Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her boyfriend Big (Chris Noth) decide to get married. The wedding originally was to be a small intimate affair, has snowballed out of control into a demon with its own motives. Anyone who got married in a traditional wedding will sympathize, or have horrible flashbacks, depending on how recent their wedding was. Big gets cold feet and pulls a no-show for the wedding. The 4 "girls" then come together to help support Carrie with her depression that follows.
The movie does follow along in the same format as the television show, providing stories for each of the 4 characters. If you enjoy the show, even just a little bit, you'll most likely enjoy this movie.
Men: take your lady to see this show if your gal is a fan. Even though it's a 'chick flick', you'll enjoy holding it against her the enormous sacrifice you made!
