One of the greatest questions of time travel is, "What would happen if you traveled back into time and killed yourself or one of your ancestors?" The paradox is of course, "How could you do such an act, if you never existed."
The answer to the problem is the fact that we tend to think of time being one dimensional. How did Kirk beat Khan in the "Wrath of Khan"? Well, Khan thought of the battle field in two dimensional terms. All Kirk had to do was to move in the third dimension to defeat Khan.
So exactly how does this solve the problem?
Well, like Kirk, we have to add a new dimension to the problem. This dimension is of course the dimension of realities. As we all know the theory of realities is that theortically there is an infinite number of realities, each one different by a detail.
Anyway, knowing this, this is how we resolve this Paradox.
Reality 1: A man (I'll refer now as man-1) invents a time machine. He jumps back in time, and ceases to exist in Reality 1. Since he never shows up again, the invention is deemed a failure, and life goes on.
Reality 2: Man-1 appears in Reality-2, meets up with Man-2's self (who looks, acts, talks, and in all intense and purposes is Man-1's twin) kills Man-2. Life continues... Man-2 never invents the time machine, but reality doesn't self destruct either... Man-1 still exists, he doesn't vanish... He just exists in reality 2.
Okay, let's view this in a more plesant light... Let's say he goes back into time to help himself.
Reality 1: A man (I'll refer now as man-1) invents a time machine. He jumps back in time, and ceases to exist in Reality 1. Since he never shows up again, the invention is deemed a failure, and life goes on.
Reality 2: Man-1 appears in Reality-2, meets up with Man-2's self and helps Man-2 invent the time machine quicker. One of the men decide to jump back... It doesn't matter which... This then creates Reality-3.
An infinite number of realities... The solution to the Temporal Paradox. You can jump back into time and kill your father, because you really aren't killing your father, but actually someone elses father.

Thanks.

So, if you kill yourself after you've travelled back in time, you're still alive. Only THAT you that died will not get to travel back in time and kill himself.
That's my philosophy.
