Who would have thought we'd be having weather related school closings in June.

Here we are in the last week of June,and most of the schools in the Philadelphia area are having an early dismissal tomorrow because of the extreme heat. Some closed early today but our school district did not. My kids would get out early anyway starting tomorrow because they have finals for the next three days so they are a little annoyed that the middle and elementary schools are getting out early too! It's supposed to break somewhat tomorrow so they just need to get through the rest of the week. Most of the schools in our district don't have air conditioning so it was pretty unbearable today.

We still have three weeks to go, but we are hanging in there with the heat...It is suppose to let up on Weds...I sure hope so...

Our kids in Alabama have been out of school since May 22. Of course the first day back next school year is August 7 !!!!

They are insane with their early dates to start back here in Bama.
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and we went to school into June as well and didn't have AC in schools. Her in Alabama EVERYTHING is cooled or we would all melt to death. LOL

I do remember those hot summers in PA.

I can't believe the heat wave going on every where else but here where we are. All we seem to be getting is rain, rain, rain!

It was 99 this afternoon in New England with high humidity. Our schools aren't airconditioned, so it was brutal.

Most of the schools here have air conditioning, but there are a few older schools that don't, my daughter's Jr. High is one of them, it gets really hot. We pay a lot of taxes to the school district here, you would think that they could at least put in individual room units or something.

Weather is unpredicatavble. Enjoy all time off.
Here in West Oz it is winter - it has been a rather chilly one. In summer, we have very hot days - in a heatwave, the temperature is above 100 degrees for days at a time.

I finally got rain yesterday, first this year as the other side of town got rain and I didn't. Hot is what it has been, but I am in the desert.

I was a teacher in a school with no A/C . It was hard enough to motivate students when the classroom was at a comfortable temperature....

if there were school in July there'd probably be some closings here this month, wild stormy weather in the Boston area!

I didn't knkow they were still in school in Philly. Our schools are closed here in Pittsburgh until the end of August.

Fern, I know what you're talking about. It's hard for the little ones to focus on the task at hand when it's that hot. It's the people that bitch and moan about public education that are part of the problem, when they could be part of the solution!
