"If you don't look, I'm going to." whispered my sister, Jill, as we stood posing for a picture in front of Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh, Scotland. "No, way, we'll get arrested! Why don't you just shut your trap and smile?" I whispered back. I knew what she was referring to, and I wondered if she really had the guts to somehow pull it off.
Mom shouted, "Say haggis!" we giggled, smiled, click went the camera.
Archie, our Scottish tour guide, standing in full Scottish regalia had just finished recounting the grizzly murder tale of Mary Queen of Scot's unfortunate lover David Rizzo inside the Palace. We had "oooo'd" and "ahhhh'd" at the bloodstained floor in Mary's chamber. "Such barbarians!" I thought to myself, "first the brutal slaying, but, then to leave the poor man's body lay for nine days? It surely must have stunk to high heaven?"
Tour finished, I mulled about, taking in the last few, precious glimpses and grandeur of HolyroodPalace.
The "clink, clink, clink" sound of dropping coins immediately caused me to look from where it had come.
"Ohhhhhh gee, I'm so sorry!" exclaimed Jill as she bent over to pick up the not so accidental coins dropped near Archie the Scotman's feet. Picking up the change, she slowly glanced up, hesitated, then brought herself into a standing position. The look on her beet red face was knowing, a bit sly too!
She had done it, peeked beneath the Scotsman's kilt!
"Well?" I asked as we boarded the bus a few minutes later, "What did you see? Is it is true they wear nothing beneath the kilt?"
"Not telling!" was her smug reply, "Don't ya know, tis a secret?"
Drat!

Love this Lynn
Nice photo of you too!
So, did she ever tell you?
Marilyn
Marilyn - Yep, I know the song...LOL Have to get me a blue silk ribbon one of these days! Did she ever tell me? NO!
and 'no' they don't!
I remember visiting it when I was just a small girl, and the place where Rizzio was killed was one of the highlights of the tour. There was a sinister stain, which the Palace tour guide assured people was unable to be scrubbed away due to the heinous crime of MURDER...! I found out when I was a guide myself, that the stain was shoe polish mixed with dark red pigment and was renewed every week! Nowadays, that wouldn't be allowed as it isn't true!
The hoary old answer to the question to a kilted Scotsman 'What's worn under the kilt' is always 'Nothing, it all in perfect working order'!
Congratulations.
