Splurging during a heat wave and buying our dinner

Sorry for the lack of caps in my title. Anyway, we were too tired to face a hot kitchen today or even grill outside. So we bought cold chicken salad and also cucumber, tomato and some mix of veggies and some fried chicken and add it all, cold....no heating up even the chicken.

Today was spent in the garden. Tomatoes and eggplant and herbs and even squash are growing nicely so I hope we'll use what we grow to make up for the splurge today. I could have cooked for 1'3 the price we paid. But it was worth it.

I understand. I think we'll be having lots of cold sandwich and chips dinners this summer. I don't want to run the air so much this year as I normally do in the summer.

We had a spluge today to, it was soooooo hot..so hubby cooked he went to bought cold submarines and dairy queen -( That his idea of cooking). we don't do that often.
Our power was running on half mass today witch didn't help matters we had to unplug everthing so it didn't get surged with the storms we had today..I'm trying to get the laundry done that I haven't done in last two days because of the heat before morning and it heats up the house again...So thats two of us... got spoiled today :))

I lose about ten pounds in the summer when I'm down on the bayous - first off, my husband isn't there so I won't be eating three meals a day - he loves to cook and of course, I am from the Eat Everything in your plate club - but down there I drink my watermelon smoothy for breakfast - walk three miles - stretch and then start my physical labor (painting outside of mama's house) at 11 and do that until 3 - then I eat and take a nap and wake up around 5 in time for a little gardening. Then, about six shower for happy hour! Sometimes it's too hot to eat! Good for you. SAlud.

We went out to eat lunch yesterday and I had a grilled chicken salad. I didn't want any thing to hot as hot as it was outside.
Sometimes we just have to take a break too! It sounds like a good dinner.
We had a chicken & rice mixture with carrots, celery, onion & chicken boullion - it was good.

I never feel like cooking, but it is worse when it's hot out. That's when Subway rocks. There's something about a cold deli sandwhich on a hot day.

I feel less guilty. Honest, we are trying to drive less and I almost always do the cooking. You would not believe how much money we've been saving when gas is around $4 a gallon and we aren't going to the store as often! Yesterday, though, we did major yardwork and I was worn out.

It's nice to have a treat like that once in a while. My garden is under water right now. Got 10 inches of rain in 3 days. Hoping the basement doesn't flood if the sump pump goes out.

We ended up buying already prepared food yesterday too. Had planned to grill out, but the heat was just overwhelming. I went to a garden fair on Saturday and thought I would pass out from the heat...and I forgot my hat, so my face was bright red by the time we left.

We've got a lot in the freezer right now, so if the weather ever cooperates (stops raining inbetween the heat waves), there'll be a feast from the grill.

It was too hot too cook here today as well. I am going to wait until tonight when it cools a bit then I will cook dinner for tomorrow.

What a delightful "picnic" dinner for a hot day. It's nice here, but not as hot as it sounds like in many other places of the country. Meanwhile, I'm down here plugging away on the computer in my dank basement. But all is well.

Sometimes you just have to do the easy thing. I used my crockpot to make dinner and it still seemed to heat up the house more than I'd liked.

I'm using a special recipe for brisket tomorrow. One of our family members had "brisket issues" due to eating too much dried out brisket as a kid but mine comes out juicy and tender every time :)

Sometimes splurging is necessary! I save, save and save every penny I can, but I do like to have take out once a week, just to get a break from cooking. To me, it is worth it.

That sounds pretty good. I hate to cook any time myself. Don't have to worry about cooking in the heat yet as it's only 55 here.

Sometimes you just need to pamper yourself a little bit. We are tightening our belts a little and not eating out nearly as often as we used to, but now when we do go out we don't feel guilty going to a "good" restaurant and ordering the steak if that's what we want.
