What's that you say?
You're looking for the photos of the "Happy Cloverdale Sanitarium"?
Well... Uhm... Yes, about that...
You see, I really wasn't referring to the nearest "funny farm" by the title (but it DID get you to take a peek, didn't it? ...heh-heh... Ya gotta watch out for these old dames -- they're SNEAKY as all get-out...) ;o)
What I MEANT by "nuthatch" was one of the cutest little birds that you ever did see!
I've been trying to get photos of this little guy and his mate for WEEKS now -- you see, he's a "white breasted nuthatch" and he spends an awful lot of time hopping around UPSIDE DOWN in the branches of the big oak tree in my front yard...
Well, I FINALLY caught him (AND his better half) on film today! :^D
Because "nuthatches" are what they call "tree-clinging birds" (like woodpeckers, flickers and sapsuckers), you're probably used to seeing these little guys more or less like this:
(Me, too...)
But, today, he hopped down and let me take SEVERAL photos of him at close range on the ground!
Like this one:
And THIS one:
And, my personal favorite, THIS one:
Then his little mate showed up:
Hey, honey! Look! I'm UP HERE!
I can SEE that, honey... Whaddaya doin' up there?
Oh... Not much... Just hangin' around...
LOL! ;^D
For being so kind to indulge me in my madness and to make up for playing that mean trick on you all with the title up there, here's a little "bonus pic" that I took today. It's the female "Anna's hummingbird" helping herself to my "Self-Serve Miniature Rose Nectar Bar" -- ENJOY! ;o)

Oh never mind.
Uhm... apparently NOT, Sharon... Does it have anything to do with swear words? ROFL!
I never got a photo. He wouldn't let me get close to him, and he kept running all over the tree.
Cute-looking bird, though I wouldn't want to be on the end of that beak.
Monica, I find that it helps just to stay as still as you can in one spot and then if you have to move, do it very slowly and quietly... I find that, after I stand motionless for a while, it's almost like the birds and animals don't even SEE me anymore and, if I'm very careful and make no sudden movements with my camera, I can get these close shots of them...
Thank you for posting to Make me Laugh
Thanks so much for posting this to
my group
Thank-you, Bridget 'n Marilyn! :o)
Doncha just LOVE that "sly look" he has in that third photo, Pepsie? Reminds me of "Wile E. Coyote"... LOL!
Great pictures and enjoyed your entertaining story to accompany them.
Sorry you're having a bad month, Victoria... Hope things go better from now on... Thanks!
But you're not BITTER or anything about it, right, Wilma?? ROFL!
They ARE rather "territorial", Lisa... Go out and hire and blue jay to protect you... That's MY best advice... ;o)
Great essay and a lot of fun to read and check out the pics.
Glad you enjoyed it, Rose! Thanks so much!
