Greetings. Many of you know that we've been gifted with a 1968 Airstream. It's an Ambassador, International Land Yacht. As I said before, she has a few dents. She's a child of the 60's. I'm sure that she saw pretty good times until the 80's when her original owners sold her to someone in Elko. At this time, it was purchased by someone from Eureka for his girlfriend, Sandy Trucks. She was the quintessential hippy chick. At the time, it was only about twenty years old and in good condition. We knew Sandy and enjoyed her free spirited attitude. We've named this trailer, the Sandy T. in her memory. She's gone to the great beyond and the other night while we were walking towards the Airstream, a star fell right in front of us. It was spectacular in the clear Nevada sky. We knew that Sandy was happy about her namesake.
After Sandy, others owned and lived in this Airstream. They were not that kind to her. I do not know why folks would tear out the insides of an old classic. Perhaps they needed the parts for another trailer or just had no feelings about old things. One of my many mottos is: "If you respect the past, the future will respect you." Now, I want to fix her up. I would like to know if you have any ideas. Personally, I have a thing for black and white. I know the floor will be checked. Of course, I will check out other options. I do not like anything typical. I do have many things from all eras so I could incorporate a bit of the 60's into her new decor. I also want to use it for a travelling art studio. The husband plans to rewire it and do all of that kind of thing before it goes on the road. We are thinking about two or three years. If the gas is too high, we'll leave it where it is but have it fixed up enough for guests.
Please let me know what your decorating ideas for a 1968 Airstream would be. I'm not conservative, don't like pastels, or anything too feminine. I like original art and unusual furnishings. Of course, we have to keep things light if it's going to be travelling. All ideas are appreciated! Thanks. Salud.

Either way, I'm jealous as I would love to get some thing like this (but the hubby would prefer a newish Winnebago.)
looks very beautiful.
As I circle your request with light, I "feel" that lots of light could be incorporated into her interior~Like MIz Dorine says...blues accented with lights, perhaps using glass blocks somehow...recycled and loved greatly once.

You are now the proud owner of the Rolls Royce of land cruisers!
I think it needs wings. It apparently already has a stunning flight attendant!

Turquoise goes well with black and white. So does red. Continue the stars theme with more from the space program; its heyday was the 60s. Where were you when humanity landed on the moon? I was in the summer camp (Pioneer Girls' Camp Cherith) mess hall with all the rest of the camp watching on a tiny b&w tv that had been set up very high so all could see it. It was my first year as a camp counselor.
Or if you get away from the time-based theme, maybe Eureka nd the surrounding area has something good for a local theme.
How about blown-up photo posters that you take of the places and people important to you?
I absolutely love the Airstreams! There's a couple down at the end of our street with one and they are getting pretty elderly. If I see it parked out in front of their house with a "For Sale" sign on it, I'll probably freak out.
Check the internet for an Airstream Show or an Airstream Rally. At a rally Airstreamers from all over the country come and camp several days together and sometimes there are thousands of them all in one place.
Rich Luhr here on Gather is a writer for Airstream magazine and spent all last year traveling with his wife and daughter in one and posted articles about their experiences every week or so.
You are so lucky to have this treasure! I'm so glad you're going to fix it up.
Thanks Miz Vicky. Salud.
Jan, you hit it on the head - the original shag carpet was a harvest yellow and of course I'm sure the beds were avocado green - not sure - but I was told that I could find out.
I know her - oh wow Isabel - thanks very much! Salud.

I'm no decorator so I'll leave it to you and others. I'm sure you will do something wonderful with her.
hint, hint!!
you will be back in louisiana in 13 days, I can't wait. You have no idea of how many times I have slept at the Franklin truck stop simply because I was just too tired to go on!
Oh yeah, you are just as gorgeous as ever!
