I have spider plants and some aloe vera. They last forever it seems no matter what.
I had a bay plant that grew like a weed one HOT HOT HOT summer. It got real big and was so cool and I used leaves from it for cooking. Then one cold cold cold dark Minnesota winter, even though it was inside, IT DIED. It was shocking. I was like "OH NO!!!". It was like, "Aaaahhhh!"
I know folks who buy huge plants at the nursery and they die right away when they bring them home. The best bet is to buy them very small and let them get big over the years at your house.

I was crushed
ha ha
Plants are sentimental to us.
That is ... until ... this Mother's Day.
I got a beautiful real, live "Orchid." Based on past history and my realizing it's life span would be cut short here, (Especially an Orchid) I decided to give it to my friend who can grow anything. I set it in my kitchen window, and started watering it, stuck one of those little fertilizer sticks in it, until I could manage to get it over to her. Well, I got busy, time passed and I never got it to her.
In the meantime, it sprouted a new leaf, now has five blooms and is a most healthy, lovely plant. In my wildest dream I would never have thought this would happen, and that is why when I saw your article, I just had to tell somebody.
This plant has lived almost a month in my home. It's kind of scary and wonderful ... all at the same time.
I glued the frog back together but the plant eventually died. Since it was a gift, I felt pretty bad .
She had never lived in winter before and well, just blew it LOL.
YAY !!!
