After my horse drawn cart ride and traipse around the grain elevator, I headed into Midland, to the Huron Ouendat Village.

Part of the Huronia Museum, the village recreates AD 1500 - 1600 living for the Huron, or, as they called themselves, the Ouendat people.

Unfortunately, in May 2007, vandals set fire to the village; it is in the process of being rebuilt.
The village includes the main lodge, a sweat lodge, and a smaller building used by the Shaman, and to house guests.

A lookout tower. No, Jax,I did not climb it - I must have left my Nancy Drew spirit at home :)

The main lodge, where almost everybody lived. Not much privacy!

I hated the plastic corn stuff. SO did not fit in. I hope that at some point someone will replace it with the real thing.

Stephanie, there were still a lot of massacres - some of the Native tribes in French Canada were warring, others less so. The Native Canadians are decimated, just as Native Americans were. Up to 90 percent of French Canadians have Native Canadian ancestry.
Still, great photos!
Real corn might encourage too many 4 and 8 legged visitors.
