I love the internet! I mean...it's 12:40 a.m., and here I am, ok? But this week I love the internet because I finally found my old college roomie and dear friend by following some simple paths online.
Eloise and I were kindred spirits right off the bat - sisters in a different life, if you will. And for two brief years we shared a dorm room, then moved off campus to different apartments in the same tine building. We each got married a bit later to our sweethearts, she had a baby, we moved to far sides of the county, she divorced and re-married. . . and we lost track of each other.
After my own divorce and then second marriage, I moved again east of Los Angeles. For the longest time I felt the Eloise was near by. I started my search in earnest for my friend. I wanted to catch up and tell her about my new husband and new baby! What had she been up to? The internet was fairly new (at least to me), but I used every tool I could find. I even searched using her son's name, since she had changed her last name a couple times.
Then about 5 years ago I found an address for her son, sent a letter with a photo of me and my friend along with an explanation....and got my letter returned with a notice that he had moved with no forwarding address. But I got closer than I had in 20 years!
Last week I felt like I should look one more time - Google and whitepages.com and I found her son again, but in a different place. And this time there was a phone #. I left a voice mail explaining my 'quest', and a couple days later - - Eloise called me!!!! She lives just an hour from my daughter at the other end of California - and we have plans to visit this summer. We talked for two hours straight - just like picking up the conversation from 30 years ago! So much fun....so worth the wait.
Thanks so much to Mariana T for encouraging me to keep on with my searching. This has been a good year for re-connecting. I am so grateful to find that Eloise is well and happy.
