Grrr... Generic comments

I haven't had any generic's yet...but, I do know what you mean. I don't leave them...I don't like them.

I always try and change up my comments a little bit so at least everyone gets something different...

I would even rather just see, "Nice picture", than "I just stopped by to let you know your picture is fantastic! I apologize for the generic comment, but your picture is great!"

I have my doubts that the people leaving those comments actually take the time to look at the images.

I will take all the comments I can get. I am being a point whore.

I agree with what you're saying, but it's such a great deal that I understand if a person only has very limited time, they don't want to miss out just because they don't have time to be terribly original. I think Gather must have known that the quality of a lot of the posts would go down during this promotion, and the goals is to get quantity over quality for this week, for better or worse.

I agree with Dawn, although I prefer to make personal comments. I have to say though, that it can easily turn into "nice picture", "pretty flower" etc. once I have seen several of the same kind.

I posted an article like this the other day and people were on me because of it. They wrote at least they posted something, so I took the article off. I know what you mean though.

I dont really give a hoot what these people think of me... Post what you want, if most of us told the truth, its all about the points... So whatever makes you happy...

I think you might be taking yourself too seriously. If they don't look at your image than knod and say their loss. At least you are getting views, there are plenty of people that spend days, weeks and months working on stuff then get maybe one view.

To which I say if you don't want generic comments than don't allow comments.

My 2 cents.

It's not that they don't look, it's that it seems like cheating to me to write up 2 sentances, and just copy and paste it blindly all day long.

I'm still ticked by the whoring articles - I haven't even dealt with the comments yet.

I usually get identical comments on my photos - someone runs through and pastes the same thing in a whole slew of them - I expect that on images, now, but not on articles.

I would rather get a generic comment than for someone to just rate and go on to the next one. That way I know you have been by!

I get them often and am over it. It really is no different from some of the other people that publish crude. (well, that is sort of worse in my book, because they want me to make the points for them)

I got a drive-by 1 on a photo with my daughter in it. :0(

I think that with the promotion we will see more of this...I don't really get upset over it anymore, I am just glad to see people stopping by - I still get points and I am really working hard for points this month trying to get to 3,000. I prefer to see something original, but I also understand that most people don't have unlimited free time to post.

How is it cheating you? You get points, no one is being rude to you. I just don't understand why people waste their time with getting upset over the generic comments or point "whores". Life is too short, worrying gives your wrinkles and all that which i've heard. Just be happy people are looking at your stuff.

If you dont like it delete the comments or don't allow them. It'll save you time and grief.

PS I get that you are venting and I am not trying to be rude but really be happy. Tell them to come my way if you have to. *lol*

I'm
1. glad someone stopped by.
2. have slowly built some nice connections who engage in a genuine exchange with me.

What bothers me is poorly written articles and poor images. I make it a point not to have those connections.
Games and jokes and quickies - well, there is a time and a place for that in my connections as well. I enjoy the occasional game, a joke when I need one and the quickies - can lead to surprising thoughts and inspiration for a new article.
So in my world - it's all good!

So now I really don't want to waste anymore of my time on this or any other rant, it is inappropriate at a time when gather is generous and there are people out there who survive on a few extra points. I'm off to drop by as many of my connections as I can.

I picked this week to come back to Gather. Triple points week is interesting in theory. Instead Gather needs to just up their regular points rather than have promotions like this.

I leave generic comments in my moderated groups. I do and try and say something besides just that comment. But if I can't. I do wnat the person to know I liked their content they submitted and leave a generic one.

Generic comments don't bother me.. I'd rather have something original, even if it's nothing long or particularly brilliant, so you know they at least really looked at the pic or read the article. I tend to do original comments on everything I read, and can get rather long-winded LOL.. but on images sometimes I will do just what you're describing and write something like I'm enjoying viewing all your pictures today..etc .. which, to me, is kinda better than nice pic 50 times over.. even though it's the same thing. You know those who say nice pic over and over cut and pasted it and moved on. Even when I do that though I sometimes type a little something extra too about an individual image if there's something I wanted to say about it. EVeryone's got their own style.. no sense is getting upset about it.

I dont really mind them.. I dont personally do them but I dont mind them.. I have been to some content that I had no clue how to comment so I done my best but I think it takes just as long to copy and paste.. dont know for sure since I ahve never tried it..

I think right now its just trying to keep up. There is no way by the 2th with all the emails I am getting to stay caught up, but I am doing the best I can to help everyone out.

Even if my comment seems generic I generally mean what I say. Sometimes one only has so many words they can use to say something and after a while the same fashion of pictures get rather dull and you can only become so original. I'm sorry if it seems like I am leaving generic comments if anyone feels that way, but I hardly ever mean too. I do my best to stay original. And to Heather you sure have been posting a lot. I don't thinK I have enough brain power to post that much.

Most of the comments I've gotten have been generic. What I've been doing is rating everything I see with a ten, comment or not. I've been posting on a formula eight pictures a day and between two and four articles.

Well, sometimes saying a nice photo is all I can say about it.

I hear that but it's only for the week for me, I usually add stuff with my other thank you. Sorry, have to move fast for me and you.

OK. You've always been really really nice to me and I should probably just send you an email instead of posting this publicly, but... I need to bring something up.

I'm sorry, but... how are people's generic comments posted solely for the purpose of earning points any different than you begging and pleading all those people to sign up for Boomertowne? I know you had every right to ask SO many people to sign up as your referral, and you probably worked really hard to get all those bonus points from them. Boomertowne paid you a TON of money this month and last month for doing just the same thing that people are doing here.

PLEASE do not take offense to me saying this to you, but it just seems a little weird for you to talk bad about people doing all they can to earn points here, when you were doing the same exact thing on another site.

Plus, you're dragging out videos that you've already posted here, solely for the triple points. SO... how is your behavior any different than other people posting generic comments?

Now keep in mind I haven't been going around posting generic comments during this promotion (well maybe a few on my mom's account just a little bit ago), so I'm not even trying to defend my own behavior. I'm just asking an honest question because it bugs me when people talk crap about others when they're kind of guilty of doing the same stuff.

I try to leave thoughtful comments at the same time there are times I just really don't have any thought or opinion but still want to leave a comment to help out with their points.

The generics don't bother me, either. who cares? At least they're taking the time to come by your stuff, give you a page view....WTH does it matter anyway? Can you honestly say that all the tons of images, articles, and videos you posted for the promo were "created with love" and not simply posted to point whore yourself? Be honest. We're all trying to make the most of this promo in our own way...whether it's generic comments or not. I just don't see why you're so pissed about it, nobody's hurting you by posting a generic comment. Perhaps you'd like it better if no one stopped by your stuff at all and you didn't get any page views or gather points/cash....maybe then you'd be BEGGING for a few generic comments

A comment is a comment and I'm happy that they stopped by my stuff! It's hard to kep up with all your connections here, and a generic comment is better than nothing in my opinion!

Yeah, I feel like it's better than nothing too... and I just don't understand the complaining or acting like you're being 'cheated' out of anything.

I agree with those who say generic is better than nothing. In general, I'm anti-generic. But come on, this is a PROMOTION. I've not promoted the crap out of MYSELF like others have. Instead, I've left thousands of comments for others to help them out. I've not made a whole lot off of it, but that's ok. The sense of community has been great and I'll miss it when the promo ends tonight.

What irritates ME are drive-by ratings - when you rate but don't bother to take two seconds to comment. THAT is point whoring in its purest form, and no one who does that regularly has a leg to stand on when it comes to complaining about others being generic. After all, leaving just a rating is the same thing as glancing at something and pasting a comment. My 2c.

Just remember that just because it is short doesn't mean it is generic. Sometime the words just don't come, you know?

They don't bug me like they used to. It does help with point totals, but I'd rather have a sense that someone actually read what I posted. But you can only control what you do.
