Why do we have so many youth participating in such a destructive practice? I am quite concerned about 'cutting' this practise our children turn too when they feel there is something wrong with the way they feel or don't feel certain things. That they have to see pain leak out via blood instead of sweat and tears . . . ?
Can anyone answer why our youth feel they must turn to such destructive behavior to feel . . . better or worse or what?
I found two sites helpful explaining what happens before, during and after incidents but not to keen on answering why. Maybe I seek personal testimony of parents who live with a self-destructive teen because this book stuff just is not helping me help my patients who come to me with this.

So, in darkness of my quest to get this dysfunction under control, I request feedback. Blade, verbal exchange, what do they seek ?
At least we can curb future cutters from wanting to vent anger in that manner . . . because it disgusts me when we let just one young person with razor marks on their wrists, arms, elbows and even shoulders to slip past our adult awareness that growing up sucks and its worse for them now then it was for us, so empathasize can we ????

Failing that, give them a more productive means of expression.
