EXCERPT from sciam.com ~ "A New, Genetic Model for Schizophrenia" ~
byNikhil Swaminathan
A new study indicates that the genetic culprits behind schizophrenia may be much less common than previously believed. Researchers report this week in Science that a rare but devastating change in one of several different genes may dramatically increase the risk of developing the debilitating brain disorder
"We're not saying that our results themselves are irrefutable proof that schizophrenia is all rare mutations," says study co-author Jonathan Sebat, a geneticist at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in Long Island, N.Y. "But, rare mutations are an important part of the story, and it's this type of risk factors that tend to have the strongest effects."
affecting 1 percent of the world's population and marked by psychotic behavior, hallucinations and delusions. Until now, most scientists believed that it was likely that a cluster of relatively common genetic mutations was to blame. EXCERPT from sciam.com

And, you are so right about understanding the human brain. It is a complex part of the anatomy.
And I'm screaming laughing at your comment, because it took me a minute to get it! hahaha! I'll just start calling you Ms. Squeeky laughing . . .

In shamanic healing practice, one can do extractions of energies, entities, possessions from the auric field - things which may have caused physical as well as emotional and mental shifts -
Once removed, the individual can return to its original growth and development patterns.
the smells were the worst. You could ignore, (once I found out what was going on and that I WASN'T LOSING MY MIND!), ALMOST anything you heard or saw but the smells could be anything from kerosene in a restaurant to bacon frying at my print shop.
Deliberately destressing my life fixed it.
More to come on Schizophrenia all week! Keep an EYE out!

" I'm not sure at all that schizophrenia is a physical / genetic disorder. This is because there are shamans - notably Siberian shamans - who can smell schizophrenia, and pull it out of the aura." ~ Carolion
This relates to both the Spiritual Senses and the introduction to some, who are unfamiliar with the work of Shaman. I'd be interested in reading more materials on what you know or have on this topic.
You've touched on it here . . .
"In shamanic healing practice, one can do extractions of energies, entities, possessions from the auric field - things which may have caused physical as well as emotional and mental shifts - Once removed, the individual can return to its original growth and development patterns." ~ Carolion
These areas that you have touched on, namely, extractions of energies, entities, possessions and . . . the auric field ~ I'd like to hear you discuss more on here.
Those who deal in the auric field, as well as, those who work in the area of Energy Healing, and Spiritual Healing cover many forms of operational practice. . . . so it would be good to hear more from you on the direction you are speaking of.
Thank you very much for your input. I am awaiting more!

Now - about shamanism and spiritual healing, including the practices of soul retrieval, spiritual or energy extraction, and depossession:
These are ancient practices. There are many traditional cultures which rely on shamans, who are the go-betweens, traveling between "the other side" and "the here and now." They travel spiritually, in the "dreamtime," into both inner and outer worlds, in order to assist individuals and communities to heal imbalances and disharmonies which may be causing illness or even things like drought or flooding, etc.
Some shamans specialize in near-instantaneous bone healing. Some specialize in weather work. Some specialize in assisting those who have passed away in their crossing-over. Some specialize in de-possession, soul retrieval, power retrieval, and extraction. Some are master herbalists; some work with animals, and so forth.
Those gatherites who are very interested in this subject might enjoy Michael Harner's THE WAY OF THE SHAMAN, Sandra Ingerman's SOUL RETRIEVAL, the DREAMWALKER books of Hank Wesselman, works by John Perkins, Eliot Cowan's PLANT SPIRIT MEDICINE, and many more.
in answer to your question, NO the Reiki has been a lifelong pursuit only as a named vocation the last five years of so.. the problems I had with the "silent migraines" (see definition below), began after the death of my Dad in 1982. I suddenly became responsible for everyone else in the family AND had a 70+hour a week job.
Stress induced the symptoms.
..."There is a form of migraine called acephalgic migraine meaning having all the migraine symptoms including auras with no head pain.
Mixed tension migraine is a very diverse disorder which can cause many neurologic system symptoms. "
Now, about the practice of "soul retrieval" . . . Do you mean, "soul revival"? -- as in reviving the soul from a supressed place within? (As in recessitating the soul). Or do you mean "soul retrieval" as in retrieving the soul from a place somewhere outside of the encasement of the body?
I'd also like to hear more from you on . . .
spiritual or energy extraction, and depossession
I'm taking it that you mean "depossession" in terms of evil and/or negative forces or demonic spirits. (?) ~ Please elaborate if you would.
Also, Carolion on this . . .
the healing of imbalances and disharmonies which may be causing illness or even things like drought or flooding, etc. . . .
There are many ways in which this is done, including, as you have brought up, Shamanic Healing. . . .
"Spiritual Healing" is an expansive term. It encompasses Energy Healing Methods, Balancing Methods, Religious Methods, Prayer Methods, Faith-Based Methods, Meditational Methods, Herbal Methods, Clinical Methods . . . amongst other Methods. . . .
In which vein are you referring to when you say, "shamanism and spiritual healing", are you connecting the two in your description above, or are you separating the two? As in Shamanism with a focus on spiritual healing ~ or Shamanism in and of itself? . . . and Spiritual Healing on another level? -- Just trying to get clarification Carolion.
Many of the members here, including myself, are familiar with various ancient practices and shamans. It is always good to give as much detail as possible when we speak in this area so that everyone is following along and on the same page of understanding.
I'd like for you to give us more information on the following . . .
Some shamans specialize in near-instantaneous bone healing. Some specialize in weather work. Some specialize in assisting those who have passed away in their crossing-over. Some specialize in de-possession, soul retrieval, power retrieval, and extraction. Some are master herbalists; some work with animals, and so forth.
. . . Especially on the near-instantaneous bone healing. and in relation to power retrieval, and extraction.
This is a good Discussion Carolion, and I thank you for sharing your input and the book suggestions you've offered to us. I'm looking forward to hearing more from you.

In answer to your question, Mandi, Yes. There are various treatment methods for schizophrenic patients. More of those methods will follow here in our Group. And, yes, there are methods that can provide a more comfortable existence for those suffering from schizophrenia.
There will be more postings this week on this area of mental health!
Thank you for commenting.

Schizophrenia is really an interesting area of mental health. There is a Dissertation that I will put forth here in the Group that was done on Schizophrenic Christians. I prepared it after attending a Church Conference wherein a Prophetess, which happened to have a Doctorate Degree and a PH.D. happened to speak on this subject matter. It was very fascinating. There is also a book that I have on "Spiritual Warfare that happens to discuss this area ~ Schizophrenia in Christians, which I would never have looked at as deeply if I had not attended that Church Conference.
Thank you for your input Renda. I wonder what type of medication the one person you described with Schizophrenia was on ~ do you know?
Looking forward to seeing you in our BOOK STUDY this evening!

Doc ~ I am so glad that you have responded. So, in essence, it was STRESS that induced everything that you described above -- i.e., "(mild) auditory, visual, and olfactory stimuli...the smells were the worst. You could ignore, (once I found out what was going on and that I WASN'T LOSING MY MIND!), ALMOST anything you heard or saw but the smells could be anything from kerosene in a restaurant to bacon frying at my print shop."

. . ."Excellent article and conversation! In my opinion the causes of SCHIZOPHRENIA are both spiritual and physical but primarily spiritual. When I look back at my darker days i.e. some 10 years ago, I remember certain experiences which I had. I think not being in peace with yourself, lack of sleep etc has a lot to do with it." ~ Kamran
Kamran ~ I thank you for this comment. When you mention that the causes of schizophrenia are both spiritual and physical in your opinion ~ but primarily spiritual, I agree with you, and would like to point out that in an earlier comment on this thread ~ above, I mentioned that I was going to post the Dissertation I prepared on Schizophrenic Christians. It was prepared in the vein of SPIRITUAL WARFARE against the spiritual causes of schizophrenia.
Also, Kamran, your statement that, "not being in peace with yourself, lack of sleep etc has a lot to do with it." . . .
I agree. What you've described has a lot to do with many illnesses and mental conditions that strike us that are out of alignment with the wellness of our being both physically and spiritually.
This Discussion should become more interesting as we progress. I thank you so much for your input, and I hope that you will elaborate on your darker days (as you described them), and how you came out of that period in your life.

for one thing I stopped being such a compulsive worker. I took a day off now and then. I learned to 'stop and smell the flowers'.
I changed my diet modestly and lost about 15 pounds.
Later I quit drinking and dropped another 15 pounds, AND lowered the 'drama' in my life.
until recently, anyway.

I don't know what the young man was on, but I know the girl was on Haldol & Tegretol. I don't know if she was on anything more, but she was also mixing illegal street drugs and alcohol with her medications (which certainly did not help the situation any).
Scientists have always regarded the gray matter as the only essential/working part of the brain although the brain contains an underside of white matter almost the same size. They considered it as shock absorber and passive material.
Gray matter contains neurons that does the brainscalculating, thinking and remembering.
It turns out that the white matter is a network of axons (like telephone wire[kind of]). Each axon is covered with a white fatty substance called Myelin. We've all heard of myelin due to Multiple sclerosis where the myelin covering nerves begins to decay. [or something like that] I don't know why they are so excited about this as they've always known that the 'white matter' carried signals for the neurons.
It reports a new type of magnetic resonance technology called diffusion tensor imaging, DTI has for the first time shown white matter in action revealing its underappreciated role.
At birth there is only a tiny bit of myelin covering the axons in the back of the head toward the bottom of the head. the myelin slowly wraps itself around the axons climbing up and around the head as the children grow. It doesn't reach its maximum until the 20's.The late teens is the time that the forebrain is being myelinated. This is also the time when most people develop schizophrenia. Also more than 20 studies have shown there is abnormal white matter covering that part of the brain. Also the study of genes have surprised the researchers showing that many of the genes linked to schizophrenia were involved in myelin formation.
It is a lengthy article and since it is older; March 2008; maybe it would be available on line. The article is White Matter Matters. They seem to have little doubt that they are gaining valuable info on xchizophrenia, bi-polar, autism and dyslexia.
We'd like to hear more on this unique work experience from you!

About TIA ~ Transient Ischemic Attacks . . . I want to hear more from you on this topic of Discussion. I will post an Article on it for all the Members here in Artistic Therapy so that everyone can get a better understanding of the diagnosis and symptoms. Doc will no doubt be able to add more to the Discussion.
Glome ~ I find that what you have to say about TIA is more common than people may think. The difference is, it does not come with the label, diagnosis, or symptoms of TIA. I have heard of this so much, but the people who I have heard it from are highly sensitive individuals in connection with the spirit realm. Some are aware of their sensitivity levels, and some are not. . . .
I have heard from many people of experiencing the "spider" syndrome. {That is what I call it}. It is when people SEE spiders crawling on their skin. I've heard of this, primarily from women. And, mainly women over 45 years of age.
I really want to hear more details of what you have been experiencing Glome. What you have described (symptom-wise, also sounds like a mini-stroke). [Please understand that I am not at all putting a mini-stroke on you Glome, so feel free to rebuke that thought in the name of Jesus.] What did the doctors say?
Going on to another comment box for your other topics Glome . . .
