Many Americans are so overweight that we are becoming a Nation of walking circles. We are also complaining a lot now about high food and gas prices. I'm wondering if we will now eat less, and walk or bike more, to save money. "Hardship" can end up making a fitter body.
What is this diet called? The Depression Diet?

See, a big reason that you see so many overweight poor people is because poor people eat poor. Instead of lean meats, you get the fatty cheap stuff. Instead of a bag of apples (that only has 6 apples in it) for almost $4.00, you can get a bag of chips for a buck.
How about bread... Ever looked at the difference in calories between your cheap white or wheat bread and the expensive good stuff? Huge difference. How about peanut butter? The cheap, affordable peanut butter (often thought of as a healthy choice by many) is HORRIBLE!!
People aren't going to eat less, they are going to eat worse.
so, people that want to continue to eat crap will continue to eat crap cause they were doing it anyway, and those that want to try to eat healthy still will, and those will be the ones who remain thin, while the others remain fat.
it has nothing to do with poor or rich, but with how you choose to eat and cook.
On the positive side, my husband is getting a bike for his birthday/Father's Day so he can ride it back and forth to work.
I buy cheap foods and I will say it is often fatty. Not that I wouldn't rather have a salad or fresh fruit every day. because I would. But have you seen fresh fruit and veggie prices lately.. bananas are over 70 cents a pound in my area.
