I would be interested in learning how to develop games. Have been programming for a long time in lots of different languages but mostly business related projects. What languages do you use for games?
Sorry. I have some college background in programming but it was so long ago that most of the languages I took are now defunct! (I was a little more than a semester away from my degree when our children started coming along. Gave up college for the family and never looked back.) Good luck with your group!
I'd love to see some activity for games on the Java mobile platform, J2ME! There are a lot of capabilities there and there's strong support across many cell phones. I did some research a while back. It's an easy platform to break into if you are familiar with Java.
I've never done any game development myself. Like Helen, I've worked more on business code. I doubt I'd even know where to begin. I presume I'd probably have to learn a whole lot about topics I don't know a lot about, particularly graphics.
I used to program, but it was business oriented as well. I'm starting to want to get back into it, but I'm not sure where to begin at the moment. I am really looking for programming oriented articles and hint/tip articles related to programming, though, for my group. I'm hoping that they will give me the kick in the pants that I need to dive into it again - lol!

I'm primarily a VB programmer, and have been tinkering with C++ (and getting my mind fried in the process) I have even played with Flash too.
Graphics scares the willies out of me.
I'm open to the idea of Java... I'm open to learn... I have a couple of game ideas, and I'm finding getting anywhere very hard.
