Tonight was the first episode of CBS's new show "Swingtown', a 70's drama about 3 families and swinging. This is what CBS decided to replace Moonlight with...Thusday nights at 10:00 p.m.
"Bursting with sex, drugs, sex, open collars, sex, Farrah hair and sex, the sure-to-be controversial Swingtown evokes the milieu of the Me Decade with a refreshing lack of retro camp. "We really wanted to make it feel like it was a lived-in '70s," explains executive producer Alan Poul.
I thought it looked interesting when I saw the promo, and I think it will be a fun and interesting show.. not so much for the swinging aspect, but for the 70's music, fashion, and flashes of 70's culture. The Farrah hairdo's, the big combs, the peace sign T-shirts, the sounds of "Love Will Keep Us Together' and disco in the background.. It will be interesting to see what will happen.. It's set in 1976, during the Bicentennial, and I remember those years well. I was 10, so too young for discos or swinging, but I remember rollerskating on Friday nights with my friends, and lots of other stuff. In one scene, the daughter of one of the couples, Lori, is in school and she slips her bare feet into her Dr. Scholl's.. remember those? I loved my Dr. Scholl's LOL ahhh..the memories. . I love "That 70's Show", and this, I think, will be a sexier, more adult-focused version of that..with drugs and lots of sex..it's a drama, not a comedy.
I read some comments on the TV GUide site and other forums of people saying it won't play in the Bible belt, it's unrealistic and swinging wasn't prevelent in the 70's, etc, but remember "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice"? someone was doing it..lol I thnk it will find an audience. If not, oh well, it will be interesting while it lasts.
It's probably not something you want your kids to watch.. In this first episode already, Lori is at the beach with her boyfriend and decides to strip down to her panties and jump in the ocean.. two young teenage boys are looking at some Penthouse and Playboy magazines they found in the basement, and one guest at a party is cutting lines of coke in the bedroom... this is just the first show.
What do you think? Did you watch it? Disgusted or intrigued? are you pissed because Moonlight is gone and this is what they replaced it with? what say you?

I did watch the show that was on at the same time on NBC, Fear Itself. That was good and scary! Really scary considering it was network TV.
Will they be airing an encore episode?
(Not that I would watch garbage like Swingtown, anyway)
Besides...... Pssssst!!
Moonlight may not be over just yet! In fact, it ain't over, till it's over! ;o)
Did you hear the news about NEW BILLBOARDS (in LA, I believe) and TAXI CAB ADVERTISEMENTS (in NYC!!) going up literally any time now?!?!
It's so exciting that I could almost "squeeeeee!!" ;o)
