Hate calls from people who identify themselves as Hillary supporters to Rep. Clyburn's office after he endorsed Obama.
Fox reports:
An angry and upset Rep. James Clyburn said Wednesday that his office has been deluged with nasty phone calls with racial overtones since his endorsement of Barack Obama a day earlier.
Clyburn told FOX News Radio's "Brian and the Judge" that the callers identified themselves as Hillary Clinton supporters. Clyburn, an African-American and the third ranking House Democrat, said a white intern in his office was so upset by the calls that she had to be consoled by other workers and left the office early.
"We got more vitriolic, nasty phone calls, really racially tinged phone calls in my congressional office, so much so, until one of the interns, a young lady who is not a stranger to politics ... and she is not a black person, she left the office, had to be consoled because of the kinds of phone calls from people who identified themselves as Hillary Clinton supporters," he said.
Clyburn said some of the callers used "names that I would not repeat on this show today."
"I was absolutely shocked, could not believe that this happened. I could understand people saying, 'Why are you doing this or why would you not support Hillary Clinton?' but to call me the kinds of names I have not heard since the '40s and '50s," he said.
This is used to illustrate the stupidity of people who talk about Obama's supporters. These supporters are free individuals who don't speak for the campaign. To hold the comportment of Obama's supporters on the candidate is plain stupid.
Should we hold Hillary responsible for the behavior of these bigots? Exactly. Next time you start your vitriolic diatribe with Obama's supporters, think of that.

But...I believe this is a very small minority of people. Most of us are more rational. We disagree, sometimes vehemently, but we respect each other when we base our differing views on facts.
I look forward to the general election campaign. There are clear differences in policy and thought process between Obama and McCain. The choice is between anachronistic thinking and futuristic thinking. The choice is clear.
And first read of your comment insuls all Hillary supporters, not just some, but it appears that the other Carol did not interpret it as I did.
I am one who has been critical of some Obama supporters, but I have made a concious attempt not to make such statements apply to all Obama supporters, and I didn't do it with one liners.
The fact that you still are using a picture of Hillary as a witch on a broom as an icon indicates that you are among the those one the winning side who are not willing to give up their hate After enduring the insults and smugness of the neocons for so long, that is really scary and will not help convince Hillary supporters to vote for Obama. Fortunataely for Obama I do not attribute the deficiencies of his supporter to him, and I suspect he would disapprove of your icon as much as I do.
The people who attribute anything an Obama say to him know themselves. This is just an example to show that such behavior is plain dumb.

Unless you are saying Clyburn is lying.
For the record, I am not here to get votes for Obama. I could not care less who you vote for.
As I've said before, we all need a little introspection. Some "supporters" on both sides (actually, all sides) have been displaying ignorant, demeaning and sometimes vitriolic behavior. But there are a few things to keep in mind:
1) The disrepectful and/or vicious "supporters" are not representatives of the campaigns. Like all of us here on Gather, everyone is expressing their own opinion and must take responsibility for their words and the ramifications of those words. Let's not confuse the voices of hateful people looking for an outlet with the candidates themselves.
2) Like real life, Gather people run the gamut from sexist/racist throwbacks to the cosmopolitan elites. The former are unwilling or unable to understand that this is 21st Century America, not some anachronistic time when it was less unacceptable to be those things . I say "less unacceptable" because it was never actually acceptable to be a sexist or a racist, but we've gotten beyond the days when we avoided calling people out on it. Neither is acceptable in any fashion and we should not allow people to think that it's okay just because you call yourself "traditional" or some other euphemism. As for the latter, perhaps some of them are too far removed from the masses that they fail to see how they are disproportionately impacted by the rising cost of health care, gas, etc. A $100 tank of gas hits a lot harder on someone working for a minimum wage than for a CEO making $10 million a year.
3) The general election will be less about personalities and more about issues. Obama and Clinton have essentially similar viewpoints on the major issues, though their means of getting to solutions may differ. But their overarching goals are close to each other. In contrast, both Obama's and Clinton's positions are diametrically opposed in most cases with McCain's goals and philosophies.
In the end, the choices are clear. The question is whether or not we will be civil in our discourse. Keep in mind that our commenting often comes to look like the partisan bickering that we so often are railing against.
As I said, perhaps some introspection is warranted.
Does the Caller ID say Faux Noise?
Can I believe someone who hates Hill so much, he portrays her on a broom. Looks psychotic to me.
V P job?
Uh, are we wishing and hoping for Obama's assassination. Yes, she is that wicked and evil -- yes!
Please God, KILL him so that I can get what I want -- if it be your will. You did it once, do it again.
YES, I most definitely believe this about Hillary.
Hold on to your Icon, Alan. You are spot on.
Many of the people on this thread want to judge Obama with misfacts.
Like he is a Muslim -- clearly misproven, yet they come here to defend Hillary with NO FACTS.
I call that unbelievable, Alan.
Excellent article.
I guarantee you that if his words were pro-Hillary he would be telling the truth, no matter what the report stated. But since the report makes a statement anti-Hillary, of course he is lying.
The reactions are so predictable Alan, you can go to Vegas and bet on them; it's guaranteed.
In fact, I wish I could do it with certain personalities here on Gather; I would be rich.
It has nothing to do with sexism; that is a myth perpetrated by the perpetrators. The U.S. is one of the few nations that seems to have issues with female leaders. This too, has been brought to my attention by people from other nations. It seems that you can hone your vision by listening to the views of those from other nations, on the outside looking in.
It has been stated that the sexism issue is a smokescreen from someone crying "wolf". I encourage you to seek out people outside of this country Alan, and talk to them if (key word, being "if" you want a rude awakening.) But like Jack Nicholson said, so many cannot handle the truth. The truth being that the fish in the fish bowl do not want to awaken to the realization that they are so totally immersed in it, they are "all wet." But those who are on the outside looking in see it.
Go ahead, Alan and talk to some of them and see what they tell you. Some of these people will find any ridiculous excuse, without foundation, and then let those outside the fishbowl tell you what they see, why it is these people are doing it. Clarity, clear vision hurts sometime.
Let them know that all of this is for NOUGHT.
There is a day of reckoning, and they shall all have to answer for every unrighteous judgment.
That ought to sit very pretty in their gut.
He's got the Democratic nomination and you are hurting Obama and the chances of a Democratic victory in Novermber more than you are helping him by continuing to bash Hillary. The real racists are about to come out of the woodwork and I am certain they will provide you with enough targets.
What Hillary said about many of the white voters who did not support Obama could have been said about them if Obama was 100% white. They also probabaly did not vote for John Kerry and for of the same reasons. They are financially insecure, worried about their own and their kids' future, feel the deck is stacked against them and won't vote for any candidate who they think doesnt see them. When Hillary talked about people who feel they are invisable it hit them hard because they have felt that way for a long time. Obama had it right in his race speech when he said he understood why some whites are bitter about affirmative action programs. When you are down in a hole, all you want to do is get out and anyone who seems to be in your way when you are trying to crawl out is not on your side,
Well said Carol. However you can't discount Nalitah's interpretation. That's not my interpretation of what Hillary said in the last few weeks. I fully understand the other interpretations however. Regardless, these racist calls, the Obama supporters response and counter attacks, they stop right there. Everyone is responsible for what they say. Obama never said anything completely out of line during this campaign. The only statement that caused stir was that 'bitter' comment. For someone who has been on the spotlight 24/7 for the last 16 months, it would be unfair to take we say and attribute them to him. Does not make any sense.
What she really said "My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it"
The subject was the length of the Campaign. The milestone in time was the RFK assassination. I heard it, I understood it.
What the Psychotic Hillary haters heard in their hate filled head was her call for Obama's death.
She's a racist?
Doesn't anyone remember the Clinton Jokes?
Bill Clinton chose Harlem for his post Presidential office so he could be close to his people.
The man (republiCons) are harassing Bill Clinton, they can't stand a black man make good.
Racist indeed.
