Yesterday morning, my husband was sitting eating his breakfast when he saw a turtle out in the back of our yard, on the State land. When he left for the day, I decided to go out there and try and get a decent shot of the turtle. I went out and took a picture of it. On my way back to the house, I heard my neighbors chatting and looked over at them. They were 2 houses down - one had another turtle in his hand and the other didn't. The one with the turtle saw me and said "they come out to lay their eggs" and I said "ok" then he said in a joking way "well, I'll be having turtle soup for dinner". I didn't think it was very funny but didn't say anything.
I went indoors. I watched with my binoculars though. My neighbor went over to the turtle in my yard, put the other one down and then started taking his foot and rolling one of them over. The rolled over turtle kept rolling back over. You could see its face and it looked mad. Then he picked up the other turtle, by its shell, and looking like he was going to pitch a ball at a baseball game, he threw the turtles back into the forest!
I was so made it was incredible. I didn't want to start a problem with my neighbor as we usually get along pretty well. I told my husband and he said that my neighbor had done something to the turtles last year too. He said the man is a maniac. I believe that. I knew he was a hunter BUT I had no idea how mean he could be to the poor animals in our area.
Hey, we moved into their world! They built our development on their property, not the other way around. Those poor turtles are supposed to be there, we're not.
So what do you think of this? It has me quite livid! Poor things. I feel bad for the turtles and their eggs.

I'm a hunter myself, and have nothing but respect for treating wildlife correctly, and it shouldn't make a difference.
Another option would be to call the Game and Fish to ask about relocating them to a different part of the forest, by yourself even if wanted, and if that would somehow hurt the turtles. I don't know if they need to stay in a certain area or not etc.
Take care.
Calling the fish and game department is a good idea, maybe you could even get them to pay him a visit the little .....
All the turtles in our area are protected and they get very serious about that!
We live on 2.5 acres of half wooded land. Our house sets up against the woods. We were eating dinner one evening when I saw our neighbors kids (and our sons friend) out at the tree line hunting birds with his BB gun. I promptly got up from the table and had a talk with him. I don't have a problem with him in our yard, as he often cuts across the back yard to go to another neighbors house sometimes, but he's going to respect the wildlife while he's in it.
If you have time check out this website. It is in regard to the Ornate Box Turtle as an official icon for the State of Kansas. I think you will find it interesting.

You will probably have to cut and paste it to get it to open.
